Object transparencys in flexi

Can anyone tell me how you set the object transparency setting in Flexi. My terminology is probably not exactly correct, but there is a way to set the object you have selected to turn into a somewhat transparent negative while you have it selected and dragging so you can still see the items that are behind the object.

Thanks but that is not what I was looking for. I know how to make transparency. Its hard to explain. This happens when you have a solid object selected. It make it a temporary negative transparency until you drop the object. so you can see what is behind. When you drop the object it then turns back to its original solid.

So are you talking about when you press control and click on an object to copy it? When you do that it makes just an outline of the image until you place it some where.

What version are you using? In 8.6 when you click on and object and drag it, it just shows a wire frame of the object. But I didn't know there is a way to turn that on or off.

The "show fills" isn't it either..

Yes I'm using 8.6. I used to have the function but since I changed computers and freshly installed flexi the setting is no long set.

Are you on the newest build of 8.6? Should be build 1472

Maybe the old computer had a lousy graphics card and it was causing this to happen.??

No I know for a fact it is a setting.. Just don't know what setting. It was something I applied a few years ago and loved it.. Now it sucks not to have the same ability...

Say you have a typical square image and you want to mask out a circle from it. When you would drag, or size the circle over top of the image it would become transparent and kinda as a negative (of color) so you can easily mask the image just how you want.

Ok, this is my last try! Is this picture what you're looking to do? That is called invert lens in the effects menu.

I think we have a winner! Here is a nother pic of a circle with invert lens applied to it over a bitmap. Now I can get back to work!

The inverted lens is what I am trying to explain. However you don't need to go effect - lens and manually do it.

This automatically happens when you select your desired object and as soon as you deselect it the object returns to its original solid.

Right now I currently mask the piece out and use the select within to move the images as need. However it is a few more steps than necessary.

In this picture this is what will happen to either object when one is selected and a portion is overlapped.

Example.

Right now if I were to select the green square and drag over the circle the green square would remain a solid.

There is a setting that can be change by hitting a series of shortcut keys or something that will allow the object that you have selected to become this "inverted lens" when it is over top another object.

Try toggling between on & off the "Show Preview" option under the "View" menu. That should do the trick.
