Paste Back In Same Place?

Is there a way in Illustrator CS3 to paste something back in the same place it was before you cut it? I could write down the X & Y before I cut but just looking for a shortcut. Thanks!

pop it onto it's own layer temporarily - hide layer

no need to cut/paste

(if you cut it there's nothing to paste in front/behind of)
