Problem with replacement computer to run HP Designjet 5500

My main computer was a Dell vostro 200 with windows xp pro which ran well up until recently, I replaced it with a back up computer Acer with vista which is newer than the dell. It seems that the computer does not recognized the printer is there any remedies to fix this? Please help!
