I have been battling our Roland Bn2-20 for about a year now. No matter what I do, the roll always eventually shifts, most of the time to the right. While it's not a major issue, everything still cuts out fine and aligned most of the time. However, between around every 2-3 prints (about 18 inches of roll used per print) the roll will start shifting to where its on the very edge of the pinch roller. I manually correct it every time and don't have any issue doing that, besides it being annoying.
The roll is secured on the media shaft perfectly. I've tried changing the positions of pinch rollers, keeping them equidistant, and I'll get various results every time. Sometimes it will stay straight for a while and eventually shift. Sometimes it shifts like crazy to the right. Pinch rollers, platen, grit roller, media holders are kept clean as a whistle. I've pondered that there is some sort of tension issue between the loading lever and pinch rollers, but can't seem to find any info on that online.
95% of the time the roll shifts to the right. It will only shift to the left if I have the left pinch roller too far to the right (tested different PR positions slightly). Feels like I have to have those rollers aligned absolutely perfect to have the roll feed straight, but it will never stay consistent after a couple prints.
If anyone has any experience with this issue or ideas I'm all ears! Attached some photos of how I typically load and align our roll. I've experimented with having the PR's & media holders at slightly different positions, these photos show what I've found "best" for production
