Rant Roland DG Connect - Remote Printer Monitoring

So just over 12 months ago, one of the reasons I decided to upgrade our printer was the included take up unit.

This basically allowed us to set our printer on a long print run and leave it printing unattended while we get on with other things and occasionally printing overnight if we were really behind.

This all seemed to work great while using the DG Connect hub to keep an eye on what was printing, make sure there were no issues and generally provided peace of mind that everything was running smoothly and that everything would be ready for the job the following day.

Last night was one of those rare situations where we decided to set the printer running for a few hours late into the night whilst I finally went home.

So once I was home I popped open the DG Connect app to check everything was printing as it should be only to discover that I could no longer see what was printing and that remote printer monitoring was now locked behind a paywall and requires a subscription.

To me, this was the only real benefit of using the DG Connect hub and I feel slightly robbed by Roland with this. We only use the printer like this on the odd occasion so don't feel it warrants the cost of a monthly subscription for something that was originally part of the app for free.

Surely Roland are making enough on machinery sales, service, repair, maintenance, parts & ink?

Think it's time to set up a camera to monitor the printer myself and ditch the DG Connect app, unless anyone has any better ways to monitor their printer remotely?

Sorry for the rant!
