Assist with paperwork, research & other tasks as we prepare & submit projects. Be a tenacious researcher & have a patient yet persistent temperament. Be ready to learn a lot!
We prepare, submit and advocate for sign variances, sign programs, design reviews, and difficult sign permits. Our job is to problem solve and create winning written documents & exhibits that get projects approved.
It can be helpful (but not essential) if you have some kind of experience working in the sign industry. Permit runner and project manager may be the most applicable experience. But what's more important is that you are willing and able to help us gather and assemble information for submittals to municipalities. Be flexible and adaptable as this company grows.
Below is a list of some of the various types of tasks that we need help with. There are other positions that will need to be filled over time, including full-time code researcher and full-time layout technician. So there will be opportunities for skills advancement and shifting of primary role, if needed or desired.
Tasks may include but may not be limited to the following:
- Research and assemble various information at the start of each project.
- Set up projects on project management platform and set up job folders for internal and vendor use.
- Prepare applications and coordinate to obtain signatures. Add form fields to some documents.
- Search for vendors to perform field surveys, research, and in-person submittals.
- Use online resources to search city case archives for sign projects.
- Coordinate with city staff to obtain sign permit records.
- Submit sign permit packages online.
- Perform various types of searches using Google Earth.
- Enter various types of gathered research data into spreadsheets.
- Proofread written documents & exhibits for obvious errors (Summary proofing is all that's needed. We don't need an experienced English major for this).
- Convert scanned documents to editable text using optical character recognition.
- Learn some basics of code research for signage. Any employee will have the opportunity to learn deep research if they have the aptitude and enthusiasm for it.
- Learn to use various online resources to perform Planning and Building & Safety research for projects within City of Los Angeles and County of Los Angeles.
