Need Help VJ-1204 Damper removal help

As easy as it would seem I am hesitant to go any further with damper removal. The black piece on top of dampers that holds the ink lines seems to be magically attached and will not lift easily. I am hesitant to go any further for fear of breaking something. is there a release or tab somewhere that i am unaware of ??

Don't even put that piece back on. It doesn't actually do anything other than be a pain in the butt!
