Wall Vinyl not sticking. Zero VOC ProMar200 Paint vs wall vinyl.

Hello! I installed a large mural at a restaurant (I have done 12 others at their other locations no problems). After installing the GM sent a photo the next morning that mural had pulled completely off the wall. After researching why this could have happened, I discovered they used Zero VOC on the wall and the Orajet 3169 I used won't stick to it. My question is, If I use Pro-999 primer overtop of the Zero VOC will the Orajet stick to that?

There are many good brands out there for materials. We have adopted a policy of doing adhesion tests prior to producing any wall wraps. We have had good success with Arlon DPF 4200.

We got complacent and did not do an adhesion test on a quick turn wall wrap and experienced a similar failure.
Here is a list that Arlon provides. It shows the ProMar 200 as being acceptable. We have applied wall wraps over primer and had success. We have also realized that sometimes we don't get accurate info from clients about when a wall was painted.

yes it is the paint, Using roman pro 880 should fix the problem

Hi - sorry to hear what happened. I do a lot of murals here in Sacramento and also prep walls if I feel it would cause issues. I have been using a Semi Gloss Enamel (latex) paint and my prints stuck pretty good. The glossy the surface, the better it would stick. For the print media to print on, I would suggest 3M 40C at least.

Thank you for the information. I used a wholesale printer, and I am kind of stuck with what they offer. They are always open to suggestions though which is nice.

Thanks, It was suggest to me to use Bullseye 123? and today I primed the wall with that. Hoping that works!

Thank you. Yeah, it's a real bummer and not a cheap fix. It's so weird, the material was sticking to the wall when applying so much that it was an effort to pull it off to realign when needed.

Hi Melissa - If the wall was painted within a few weeks we always recommend using Wall Size by Shieldz as a primer. I had a customer that was mislead to thinking the wall was painted a month prior but it was painted the day prior. Graphics went up and fell right down. Put Wall Size primer on it and put the same graphics back up on the wall and they look great. This is Retac from Drytac. You can call me any time to discuss.

You might just wash the surface with 1 -> 10 ratio Ammonia -> water. Freshly painted surfaces have a film of leftover stuff.

We just ran into the exact same problem. We did the mural at a comic book store and it half fell off. The customer did not want to paint the wall with any other paint or primer. We ended up direct printing onto four 4x8 sheets of polystyrene. We tiled the mural. We laminated the sheets. We used 3M tape to put them up. We hope they stay. I am sorry your mural fell off. Hopefully this post stays alive with good suggestions. It is heartbreaking to leave a job like that thinking how good it looks and to get a call later from the customer.
