What is a solution for applying 3M diamond grade reflective over a slight curve?

I did a job months back applying 3m Diamond grade reflective striping over the back of a chevy tailgate. The tailgate has a slight curve to go over. I attached picture with problem area. When i came to the ends, the stripe did not want to lay down. I know this stuff doesn't go over curves well cause its so thick, but they need it done! I put a cut in stripe so it would lay down, but it is now lifting anyway. Is there a product to help lay this down??

Gone over much worse bends without any problems using 3M and Oracal.

Perhaps you touched the backside too much when applying and made the adhesive weak.

The striping I am using is the thick diamond grade, that doesn't give at all. It isnt just regular reflective that you can stretch and heat. I am having such an issue. It is like that is the same spots on each side, so it isnt the adhesive. driving me crazy!
