  1. Studded dimensional letter to wood sign, what Adhesive?

Stud with silicone in drilled holes all the way. If you have to make a pattern for new holes, take 5 studs, cut them short, then sharpen the cut end to a point. Pen plot your letters for proper kerning, put a piece of cardboard underneath, screw the pointed studs to the letters, align and...

  3. Question Pricing simple CNC signs on pvc

Your install prices seem to be right with California pricing but your shop rate is VERY low. Consider this, most installs can be done by a carpenter. In my area carpenters are getting $40 an hour, but sign shop rates are at a minimum of $60 an hour. I'm don't know what carpenters get in your...
  4. File Prep for CNC Router

I've never understood this affinity with dxf files. Half of them that I've been forced to work with have no curves, just little short straight line segments with a bazillion nodes. I have always used Illustrator and save as version 8 eps and have never had anything missing. File sizes are not...
  5. Biesse Plast Line

I can't help you with the router itself but I would think twice about Fusion 360. I'm in a cnc forum and I constantly hear about the limitations of the software and the extreme learning curve.
  6. Old school sign painting advise

Some wall dogs will use a projector at night to transfer the pattern with a stabilo pencil. Then as others have said, fitches for the outline, bigger brush to fill in.
  7. New to CNC Routing

Several people on a CNC group I am in have said that misters on aluminum are not recommended because it will greatly shorten the life of your bit. An oil mister will cool the bit in random areas so uneven heating takes place. When it comes to cutting metal they agree that you should just use...
  8. If it smells like sardines and dog rear end, it must be Corafoam

R-Tape clear right? Nasty but I'm forced to use it at times.
  9. If it smells like sardines and dog rear end, it must be Corafoam

I have to say Corafoam has a unique smell to it compared to others but I never thought it smelled like sardines and a dogs rump. Not the most pleasant odor but not horrible. Now 3M translucent vinyl... now there's a bad smell. But everyone perceives smell a little differently. I read about a...
  10. Looking for a product

Back in 2004 there was a company called Magna Graphics. They specialized in decorated aluminum license plates and oval sign blanks that were decorated with various themes where you could add vinyl or painted custom lettering or graphics. Their web site is still up but the phone is disconnected...
  11. Wood signage

Who wouldn't use stringers with ACM? To me that's a no brainer. Heck, as lousy as MDO is now, I would't install any permanent MDO sign without at least a perimeter frame. That stuff can curl like a Pringle. potato chip
  12. Wood signage

I'm going to disagree with everyone that said ACM is not strong enough. by itself. I installed a double sided sign where the upper part was 2 sheets to make an 8' x 8' panel then a 2 foot gap with a 5' x 14' bottom panel. I installed wooden stringers onto steel wide flange beams 30 feet tall...
  13. Wood signage

Let's crunch some numbers MDO primed both sides, seal edges, paint, $79.61 plus labor & materials for sealing the edges, 2 days in the shop just for paint drying ACM ready to apply graphics, will outlast digital prints, zero prep other than pulling off protective plastic layer $43.15 Savings to...
  14. Discussion vehicle lettering/graphics on non-commercial vehicle?

I know homeowners associations that have these rules. I think this could be a ripe case for constitutional rights being violated. If it were legal I would think every vehicle would have to have their logo removed from the vehicle including bumper stickers, baby on board hangers and anything else.
