I'm also located in orlando FLSignMan, and I operate a 9840. Great printer, dont waste your time with the Gerber or the ColorSpan 5400 series, I can generate a long list of reasons why. Talk to Robert at Grimco for pricing on that machine.
I have a HP 9000 and had the same problem. Tried to cover the heaters with just about everything, but nothing worked. Now I print them on my flatbed, works like a charm.
Ditto on the Linotype explorer. DO NOT USE IT WITH WINDOWS MACHINES. It messed up my system fonts as well, i almost had to reformat.
Font Nav is good, but Suitcase is better.
good printer, great workhorse. I would contact your supplier about media because there will be a fair amount of product that you won't be able to print on. On top of that your media will be more expensive. But you will get great output from the machine and will be happy with it. Just make sure...
HP is right. We have one and I don't mess with stuff like that. Ours has a warranty, so if I were noticing problems like you are having I would have a tech come out for an inspection if a heavy print head recovery wasn't working. Are you sure its drop and not head strikes from an un-level carriage?
