  1. What to learn before opening my own shop?

True. car guys in general would be a niche within itself.
  2. What to learn before opening my own shop?

One thing i also noticed right away, there are some people that are adding a layer of clear coat to preserved the patina on the old cars/trucks though... but again, i agree that matte laminate would have been a better choice
  3. What to learn before opening my own shop?

Not saying it's a thing that everyone is doing right now, but it MIGHT be in the future... who knows. This real patina'd C10 truck sold for, i think, $35K at Barrett-Jackson earlier this year... when just a few years back there would be no way in hell a rusty truck would even get a chance to...
  4. What to learn before opening my own shop?

Sure is. Those guys also did this 53 Cadillac.
  5. What to learn before opening my own shop?

Definitely agree with that last statement. Initially, i'll take any work that comes in but in the first year up an running my plan is to grab those companies that will keep me afloat with reorders and try to grow those loyal customers like you mentioned. Thanks!
  6. What to learn before opening my own shop?

To be honest with you, the styles change through the years, and of course a classic is a classic... but the younger crowd always switches things up whether the old heads like it or not, i've seen multiple classic vehicles wrapped. From a 68 Mustang wrapped all black with carbon fiber hood we did...
  7. What to learn before opening my own shop?

Here at the shop I'm currently at, we outsource when we can't or it's not efficient to produce it in-house. For example, banners taller than 6', 100+ coro signs, business cards, that sort of thing through 4over or other local sign shops that don't work directly with customers. So definitely that...
  8. What to learn before opening my own shop?

Where I'm currently at, we do channel letters, monument signs, cabinet signs, etc. The downside to that is that it takes time to produce everything inhouse (good money though) but it backs all the other "little" jobs. Not to mention it's a lot more investment when it comes to routers, sheers...
  9. What to learn before opening my own shop?

This is definitely the type of answers I was hoping for. A little more background on my end, i have experience with online/email marketing, social media, print media like magazines, newspapers and misc marketing materials, signs, web design, and of course graphic design. I feel I've always...
  10. What to learn before opening my own shop?

Very much appreciate every single answer, great advice.
  11. What to learn before opening my own shop?

I see, but like any other business, I suppose if I find a niche, it could work. For example, I could focus on vehicle wraps or vehicle graphics in general since I run an Instagram page with 150K followers who love classic cars... Just looking for any ideas and tips from learning certain...
  12. What to learn before opening my own shop?

Hello there! I've been in the sign industry for a little over 2 years (print industry for about 8). Initially hired as a designer but have expanded to do a little bit of everything, from sales rep to installs. Besides diving a bit more into installs (haven't yet wrapped a full vehicle by...

  14. Western font ID help

Any idea what this font is called? Did a bit of research and couldn't figure it out even though I know I've seen it before. Thanks.
  15. valuejet1604

Usually this fixes it for me too when we have funky lines on our prints.
  16. Is it too early to talk about the USSC show yet?

Just curious, where is this being held at? and can someone point me to wherever I can look at shows going on in the west coast?
  17. System for naming/archiving files

I like that, only reason I put the "1311_" first is so it's all organized by date easily.
  18. System for naming/archiving files

    Story of my life.
  19. System for naming/archiving files

That new plan sounds like a good idea. I've been running the shop for less than a year so I'll wait a bit longer to try and move into doing work orders by PDFs but it's definitely something to look into. ...and I'd say 65-75% of the jobs don't provide us with POs so that's why I don't bother...
  20. System for naming/archiving files

Same here.It was previously setup as: date > client > order and I'm trying to flip the client to first position because clients will come in saying they want "the same order" from 3-4 years and it seems annoying to search into each year first, then client.
