  1. Sign Designing - Quote of the day...

Rather it's imprecision, no one designs signs. No one no how. 'Sign writer' may be a bit archaic but brushes or computer, the process is the same. Bridges are designed, machinery is designed, software is designed, even type faces are designed. Signs are not.
  2. Sign Designing - Quote of the day...

The old original term was 'sign writer'. Even in a completely digital environment this is a far more apt description than 'sign designer', an affectation if thee ever was one. As I think back most every time some client asked if I could design something for them I always replied "I can lay out...
  3. Sign Designing - Quote of the day...

The point, which appears to scamper right past you, is that signs are not designed. It's rather a different, perhaps even similar but still different, process. It's not something that you pick up at 'design school' or 'engineering drawing school', whatever that might be. I've spent more that the...
  4. Home made Take up reel? Take up Reel hacks?

I took the spool and axle from the take up mechanism on my VJ1204, slapped together a stand out of a couple of 2x4's and scrap aluminum laminate, added casters, and a mini-bungie stretched over the exposed end of the axle for tension. The spool stands as high as the bottom of the printer. I...
  5. Need help with a font

That's the ghastly script that's on every artsy object at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, etc. The 'M' has been diddled and the heart added.
  6. Logo Idea

A couple of things... The "Wichita Falls" type face is ghastly. Looks like it was finger painted by a pre-schooler. Select something that looks like it was done by an actual sign writer. If you're going to use a star then use a star, not the bloated version you have currently. Probably half...
  7. Glitter Printable Pressure Sensitive Vinyl?

I've printed on Avery ultra metallic with eco-solvent. Many times. Works great. There isn't much, if any, vinyl you can't print on with any sort of solvent.
  8. Suggestions best tool to install u post (sign post) in the ground

You also can rent a skid steer with a t post driver. It will drive a t post through most anything the post is capable of penetrating.
  9. bubbles

Bubbles are a product of bad application technique. Most often the result of letting the vinyl contact the substrate without being put there by the squeegee. The quality of the vinyl, the timing of removing the mask, or the state of the tides are not factors.
  10. Disposing of discharged ink

You need to develop at least a rudimentary sense of scale. There's a whole hell of a lot of difference between dumping a few million cubic yards of whatever in one spot and me pouring a couple of ounces of waste ink along my fence line. Moreover some materials are a damn sight more hazardous...
  11. Disposing of discharged ink

As the blind pigs finds the odd truffle, you, sir or madam as the case may be, are correct about one item in your rant. My lack of care is, in fact, total. On all other points you not only are in error, utterly, but you are tedious and that is unforgivable.
  12. Disposing of discharged ink

Any particular law or just illegal in general? Maybe some edict or another in your village? Does it carry the death penalty? Life without parole? What? It's a pretty pi$$ poor civilization that stands to be destroyed by me or anyone else or everyone for that matter dumping some waste ink...
  13. Disposing of discharged ink

Just toss it out somewhere. You're not going to destroy civilization. History will proceed totally unaffected regardless of what you do with it.
  14. Sign Designing - Quote of the day...

Anyone who styles themselves a 'sign designer' is somewhere on a scale between presumptuous and a pompous a$$. Probably one who scored 'D's in school. I sometimes use the same doctor as Mssr. Best and sometimes his colleague, Tommy the Tuba.
  15. Accidentally designing "offensive" logos...?

Dicks are like madonnas, they're an amorphous shape that can be projected onto most any sufficiently vague image. Seeing a johnson in something or another is no different than seeing jesus or whatever god in a slice of Swiss cheese.
  16. Unforgetable font

https://www.nbcnews.com/mach/science/bizarre-looking-font-helps-you-remember-what-you-read-ncna921736 The only thing I remember after reading text in this font is that it was incredibly hard to read.
  17. Revenue Inspector got me....

Your defense is the 1st amendment. Freedom of speech is freedom from speech. If you have the right to say anything then that very same right says that you have the right to say nothing. Either with your mouth or with your vehicle. I'd give good odds that this village's provincial edicts have...
  18. w9's

Are you a contractor or a merchant? If the former then have at it with the w9's. As for myself, I'm a merchant and I don't do W9's. Ever. Under any circumstances. If some customer or another insists that I do so before they pay me, I explain that I'm not is a 1099 relationship with them and...
  19. Storing Vinyl

Plain hair scrunchies. No marks, no residue, no nothing. Mount the roll on the input shaft then roll the scrunchie off to the side and leave it on the shaft. When done roll the scrunchie back on the vinyl and dismount the roll.
  20. Designing for signs

To say that signs are 'designed' is an accommodation of charity of language. You have a defined space to be occupied by some copy or another. You lay out the copy. Back in the day when signs were make with a box of paint and a collection of brushes, the copy was roughly sketched with charcoal...
