  1. Can you relate to this?

So true. My personal favourite is when you go through that whole process and by revision 15, they've realized that, yup that looks terrible and is basically illegible. Let's go with revision 2. You know, the one before they started adding stuff.
  2. Overspray on HP9000

It's possible the problem is static charge. I would try to increase the humidity in your print area to at least 50% and ideally about 60-70%. This should bring down the static a lot and maybe fix (or improve) the situtation.
  3. Best host and registrar?

Mediatemple.net is where it's at. More expensive than a lot of other hosting companies out there but by all accounts that I've heard they are totally worth it. I haven't personally used them myself, but like I said, I have yet to hear a bad word about them. I use netfirms.com myself, and I've...
  4. F*&% pos **%$&* $&*&

Not really a proper program solution, but it works for me. Whenever I'm working in Illustrator I listen to music (as do a lot of people I imagine), I just save everytime a new song comes on. Simple. Force yourself to do it for a half hour and it will become basically automatic.
  5. Printing on Mirror Finish Metal

come to think of it, 2 months we did a job which was floorplans outup onto stainless steel (brushed) and we did it by printing with our solvent onto 3M 8519 (vehicle wrap lam), letting it offgas and then laminating with same. Mounted it wet, and it looks great.
  6. Printing on Mirror Finish Metal

At my previous shop I succesfully printed on chrome and an actual mirror with no problem. I don't think the UV portion of the light gets reflected back. This was on an Oce Arizona 250 btw.
  7. Compositing with 3ds Max

I would maybe just light it in HDRI, that's worked well for me generally. The trick is to find the right one. There's some good resources for that on the web, you should be able to find a lighting map that resembles the background for the scene. Also had an idea about the process overall; what...
  8. JPG Properties settings

I'm assuming you're talking about sending out proofs. At my last shop we had a "stamp" that had our logo, contact info, etc. on it and little boxes to fill out with the clients name, revision number, project name, as well as a little tagline that told them that this was copyrighted artwork and...
  9. roland cutting problem

I would slow down the cutting speed and make sure the platen and vinyl is cold. I've had warm vinyl go a little soft on me and "bunch" in front of the blade as described above. Finally check for any play in the entire cutting assembly: carriage, blade holder (I've had this loosen up on me), and...
  10. Compositing with 3ds Max

been a while since I did any work in Max, but my approach for doing mock-ups like goes like this: Showing flat graphics (ex: window/door graphics) Skip Max and go straight to photoshop. Copy from Illustrator (I'm assuming you're working in Adobe here) and paste as a smart object. Transform...
