  1. Need Help Color Codes for Department of Transportation - Federal Highway Administration

For the longest time the Pantone equivalent of the MUTCD brown color has been PMS 469. https://mutcd.fhwa.dot.gov/kno-colorspec.htm But that's only for print purposes to approximate the color in illustrated diagrams. The brown background color on actual traffic signs is a specific Type III...
  2. How to save a file in Corel

The only font-related thing I use where the fonts are stored remotely is Typekit, aka Adobe Fonts. In that particular case if I did leave certain text objects active and the fonts were synced from Adobe Fonts two other designers at my workplace could at least sync those fonts from their own...
  3. Hate Thieves

Now the news is Astros Coach AJ Finch and GM Jeff Luhnow have been fired. Apparently stealing signs is a widespread problem in baseball. The Boston Red Sox are currently embroiled in their own sign stealing scandal.
  4. How to save a file in Corel

I'm not using Corel's Font Manager over a network. It runs slow enough as it is just "seeing" fonts on the computer's local hard disc, never mind trying to sniff fonts out across a network.
  5. How to save a file in Corel

That's one of the biggest reasons why I use Adobe Illustrator to open and manipulate artwork saved in PDF format. The Flatten Transparency trick works reliably at converting embedded fonts in the PDF to outlines, even if those fonts are not installed on the computer. As far as I can tell...
  6. How to save a file in Corel

Why would I do that? Several reasons. For starters I work with several other people who have to pull up my artwork on other computers when fabricating the job. No one is going to have the same exact collection of fonts from one computer to the next. Leaving lettering as active editable text...
  7. How to save a file in Corel

I can't recall ever having a problem placing a PDF with embedded fonts into Adobe Illustrator. The Flatten Transparency trick works reliably at converting the embedded fonts into vector outlines. The only way I can imagine the function running into trouble is if any of the embedded fonts within...

Prior to the civil rights movement many Democrats, particularly ones in the South, were very conservative in their politics. And some Republicans were more liberal. Dwight D. Eisenhower once said we has a liberal. In today's GOP he would be maligned as a RINO. Many people switched political...
  9. Anyone else disturbed..

I was absent from the thread for a couple of days. Unfortunately, pretty much as expected, a big chunk of the discussion has devolved into the liberal vs conservative dogma nonsense. Certain people are spinning the notion, "our side is reasonable, the other side is insane." Pardon me while I...
  10. How to save a file in Corel

Go to the "File" menu and select "Publish to PDF." If the design only has lettering created from fonts and a couple other objects made within CorelDRAW there won't be any need to worry about dpi settings. The objects are vector-based, not pixel based.

It's pretty certain Trump tweeted that absurd threat without any input or advice from any "grown-ups" within his inner circle.

Getting back to the topic, earlier this morning (Sun, Jan 5) the Iraqi Parliament passed a resolution to end the presence of foreign troops within Iraq and ensure they not use its land, air, and waters for any reason. Resolutions like this from Parliament are non-binding to the government, but...

There is a sad yet hilarious joke (or factoid) that most Americans would badly fail the test immigrants have to take when applying for US citizenship.

No one banner is the same either. The low-ball outfits online are going to crank out canned type and canned clip-art, anything that can be thrown together fast. If the customer provides the outlet some JPEG image of their banner idea chances are very good the low-ball company will just slap that...

The flip side of that is we're sign designers and fabricators. Spelling and proper word usage should naturally be a big deal to us. It's nothing but embarrassing if any kind of sign goes out of the shop with a spelling error on it. We had some yard sign with the term "Transportation Office" on...

Sow vs sew is a new one to add to the list of words butchered in print and online. It drives me nuts how so many people do not know how to use the words there vs their vs they're. The bare bear had no hair there. One of my local friends' family fled Iran in the late 1970's when the Mullahs...

It can be really tough for people just getting into the sign business to have enough guts to let a customer walk when they say they can get a particular product online for so many dollars less. We won't bat an eyelash when hearing it. It's basically like, "well, bye!" Sometimes it's really...

I personally don't watch CNN or Fox News; I think those channels along with MSNBC are outlets of what I call "anger pornography." With that being said, other national news outlets online and broadcast network TV have been reporting the US administration had very credible intel that General...

If the banner contained only basic text, nothing fancy, something that could be churned out pretty fast I wouldn't include an extra art charge above the square foot price of the banner. With that being said the basic square foot cost of the banner should include the labor and materials needed to...

This isn't the typical partisan noise we get constantly in so many other places (like Facebook). Developments stemming from this escalating conflict could affect the sign industry if it gets really bad. Rising oil and steel prices would raise our materials costs. The sign industry is an...
