There is a little adjustment shoe (pad) that rides on the cam bar at the back of the plotter. See if you can adjust it out further so it lifts the knife higher. If it is at the end of its adjustment, it most likely has worn out and needs to be replaced. I've attached some photos from the...

Don't have one...never used one...but it would seem to me that it should never rely on air pressure (or in this case, vacuum) alone to hold the roller off the table. There should be some sort of positive stop (home position)...kinda like a printer head when it's not in use. It would help...
