  1. Daytona 500 Hijacked: ESPN Radio only?

Ok...so I really wanna puke. I thought I'd listen to the race on the radio, but for some reason, slick marketers really have their claws deep into the pie on this one. Every stinkin' move that was made in pit road was prefaced by "-----"fuel, and "------" tires...and so on...sometimes five...
  2. Form vs Function Zoning: Mack Brush Co.

The Mack Brush Co. http://www.mackbrush.com/ is just a few miles up the road and was in the local news this morning. They're located in a commercial (historic downtown) section of Jonesville, MI and are the catalyst of a new initiative that may allow zoning changes to take place for business...
  3. Fonts

The nice thing about a font manager is that you can organize fonts by any category you want: style, customer, jobs, etc... You might want to consider one now, before you have so many fonts that it makes organizing them a chore. Search features are very handy, and two more good reasons are...
  4. A "Zam" what?

It all starts with an idea: http://web.mit.edu/invent/iow/zamboni.html JB
  5. Creative partnership arrangements?

If I were you, I would take him on as independent contractor "employee" (at will)...no contracts, no promises...nothing. You're going to have enough challenges without throwing in partnership issues this early in the game. If possible, take a "wait and see" approach before making a commitment...
  6. Make it Happen

Make it Happen. I love these kinds of videos: http://www.kauffman.org/sketchbook.aspx?VideoId=1445247848001
  7. Fonts

I use a font manager (Suitcase Fusion) and can turn fonts "on" and "off" as needed. Fonts that are turned "off" do not consume RAM. JB
  8. Put out to pasture...

I also sense a little apathy. Here's the cure: find an apprentice and begin pouring your skills into him or her. You'll feel good about what you're doing and they'll be eternally grateful learning a skill that will put food on the table. JB
  9. Can't figure out how to make this sign...

Go take in a movie this weekend and grab one on the way out. Take it back to the shop and reverse engineer it. JB
  10. Door Hanger Punch?

You'll only be able to do one at a time this way, unless you use a bigger press and do a two-up or four-up die. JB
  11. Another cool one...

Magic Sauce...do you have it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_OtN2ydiYc&feature=related JB
  12. Kauffman Foundation for Entrepreneurs...good stuff!

This is for the newbies (and the rest of us) in business who might be looking for some helpful resources sponsored by the Kauffman Foundation: http://fasttrac.org/ The FastTrac program consists of 3 separate tiers: startup, growth and technology ventures. I went through the six week...
  13. Door Hanger Punch?

A steel rule die and a manual arbor press is just about a cheap as you can get. I would say you can get set up for less than $350 which includes making a home made locating fixture. JB
  14. Job Wages / Salary

Don't just look at wages. Is there an opporutnity to gain a better understanding and perhaps enhance your skill set while working at this job (possible advancement?) If so, then go for it and possibly work a part time job to fill in the income. You could also try to strike a deal with them...
  15. Why does coffee in cafes taste 100x better than at home?

"Sigh"...I reluctantly gave up coffee two weeks ago for health reasons. I feel a gazillion times better already...but I dearly miss a rich, dark cup of coffee. The smell is so alluring...especially when my wife fires up the grinder. I tried decaf once and nearly puked. I don't miss...
  16. Mil thickness

1 mil equals .001 inch, or in other words one-thousandth. You're only talking another 2.3 thousandths...approximately half the thickness of a piece of printer paper. This amount is practicaly negligible. People sometimes confuse mils with millimeters. A millimeter is approximately...
  17. How the heck should I know?!?

I've been in your spot before, my friend...and I say follow your heart. After about sixteen years of following my dream, I got a chance to go back to work at the "old place" for a few months. It was a real eye opener and I'm so glad I followed my heart...and got a brand new perspective on...
  18. ROM Exercises...anyone?

That looks quite interesting. I'll read more tomorrow. I like the "start slow" approach". Thank you! JB
  19. How the heck should I know?!?

Best one I've heard today! But beyond that, the cluttered desk is only a symptom of a deeper problem...namely the severe lack of discipline. Until she can master that problem, no accounting system will be effective. Receivables is one of the worst areas a business can neglect...
