Thank you. That is something we have been trying to do while we figure this out. We have definitely been loading up on bleed until the issue is resolved, but aside from the extra ink consumption, there are still issues on non-solid colors/patterns and colors that run too close to one another.
Thank you in advance for your help with this issue.
Our Summa S2 T160 has had multiple problems throughout it's time with us and it is hard to determine whether it is an Onyx issue or a Summa issue or just a lack of knowledge on our end.
We have had countless re-prints because of tracking...
Well, mystery solved. One of our techs (now former tech) failed to remove the protective sheeting before applying the backlit vinyl .
The good news is, I can stop banging my head against the wall trying to figure out what went wrong and as a bonus, this was the easiest vinyl removal in...
That was a lot of information. Thank you. We follow most of this, more or less, with the exception of the drying of the Polycarbonate prior to application. We can certainly start removing the protective sheeting as soon as the boards come in, but I wonder what the process is to bring the temp to...
Good suggestion. We do print on an opaque film, but none of our printers have the ability to print white, so we don't have much choice in the matter. They are a good client with many locations, so I am teetering between free and at cost.
Thank you for the suggestions. We sometimes use cast laminates on certain materials like 3M40C (intermediate calendared), but I was under the impression that applying cast over calendared would not have any ill effects. I know that the reverse can be an issue, but was under the assumption that...
Same here a77. We always prep with isopropyl and use either rapidtac or a drop of Dawn mixed well in a spray bottle of water, depending on temperatures.
We have produced more backlit Lexan graphics than I can count and this is a first for me. Hopefully a first and a last. Thank you for taking...
Good question. This one is tricky. We typically stand behind our work well beyond our standard warranty period, but this one is pretty extreme. If it is a peeling vehicle decal it is easy enough to eat the cost to keep a customer happy and build trust, but this is definitely a more significant...
Thank you for posting the photo. Glad to know we're not alone. Whereabout in Canada are you? Wondering if it is climate related. Big temperature swings etc.
We have had a lot of rain and flooding in our area. Very unusual for us in Vermont. We have to re-face the graphic anyway, so we'll be taking a look inside. The box does have weep holes, but I know they get clogged up sometimes. Thank you for the insight.
Thank you. This the first I have heard this. You are saying that after removing the protective film, the Lexan should sit for a week before applying vinyl?
It is located in Vermont, so nothing too extreme. The timing is the most confusing part of the whole thing. It was installed in July 2020, so even if we didn't push all the water out on the application I would think any issues would have shown itself almost immediately. The shear number of...
The face is Lexan and has full vinyl coverage with UV laminate (3M8520). The "yellowing" is their branded color. The colors have not changed.
I have never heard of "too much liquid" when doing a wet application. I assumed whatever is needed to keep the vinyl from pre-sticking, as long as all the...
Hi Everyone,
I came into work this morning to an email with this photo showing the entire surface of a sign we produced and installed 3 years ago bubbling up. This was Orajet 3850 Translucent (printed on HP latex) with a 3M8520 overlaminate, mounted to Lexan in a standard SignComp kit.
I am...
Ha. I have been scrambling to educate myself on the material. Sounds like it develops the rust/patina only on the surface and acts like a protective layer. Found two products called Everbrite Instant Rust Accelerator and Everbrite Protective Coating. Supposed to create the patina and then seal...
I would've thought so too, but my metal vendor tells me she can get most any gauge I want within a week or two. I guess it would be "weathering steel" which is supposed to be the generic version of corten and maybe why it is more available.
This is an interesting idea that I'll have to look into. I have seen some articles about accelerating the rusting process with a pre-treat of vinegar and then a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, white vinegar and salt. The client is looking to have this sign up by the beginning of March and I don't...
