  1. Falcon 1 Outdoor 48 rebuild - documenting!

Went back and did another 8' worth of calibration prints, I got things pretty close, the left head is just a tiny bit rotated, but hopefully I can fix that. I put a new post up about what I've been through since the reassembly. http://falconoutdoor.blogspot.com/2012/02/printing.html I've also...
  2. Falcon 1 Outdoor 48 rebuild - documenting!

I'm using Flexi 7.6. What needs more alignment in those pictures, would you say? I've been through most of the head alignments in the system, but some of those it was difficult to get correct. I can go back and do them all again if need be, i have about 6' of alignment printouts, lol. I could...
  3. Falcon 1 Outdoor 48 rebuild - documenting!

So after trying about 20 different combinations of import color profiles, and printing profiles, I found that lowering the ink limits to about 65% had a huge improvement in the color quality, as well as how well it was printing darker areas. It looked like it was laying down way too much ink...
  4. Falcon 1 Outdoor 48 rebuild - documenting!

Didn't see any wrinkling, but I'm not sure i can set the mode that the builtin test print prints at.. I think it just prints at one, but I could be wrong, I'll check again when I get home. The same thing happened at room-temp (heaters off) and heaters on, so not sure if heat is the reason it's...
  5. Falcon 1 Outdoor 48 rebuild - documenting!

So, got things up and running, and I've been trying some test prints after calibrating a little to see where I'm at. The odd issue I'm having is that the non-primary colors printing in the built-in test prints are printing splotchy.. This is with the platen at 60C and fixer at 50C. (Don't mind...

  7. DAzed & Confused

I know this is kind of an old thread, but there is a calibration function in the menu that allows you to set the edges of the spit cup for the head. I'll find it and edit this.
  8. Falcon 1 Outdoor 48 rebuild - documenting!

Well, last night was productive, I got the system back up and running! Tonight i'll take pictures and start putting up a bunch of info on what i've gone through. I got a roll of OraJet (blew through the last few feet of my junky old white vinyl doing calibrations) so I can finish up the...
  9. Falcon 1 Outdoor 48 rebuild - documenting!

Had a crazy idea early in the morning. How about a Wiki-type site for all this great knowledge we've got here? It's kind of cumbersome referring to old threads and trying to find information, i thought I'd create us a wiki and see how much info I can fit on it while I'm doing my things...
  10. Mutoh Toucan Lt print heads

Depending on how long the machine has been sitting, there are techniques that can be attempted to get print heads back to life, but they are a consumable as most other things (capping station, pump) are on this device. They need to be replaced every so often when they're used in a production...
  11. Heater display Falcon 38 Junior dead/not working

Yeah, it sounds like you did it right. Looking at the picture i took, the pins are going to be on the backside, so the blue tape should go towards the front of the machine. If it did short, who knows what might have been damaged by it.. Seems maybe something on the heater control panel or one...
  12. Bout ready to sell

I think there are two head fuses, both on the lower board. Here's the thread about the fuses: http://signs101.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54941
  13. Falcon 1 Outdoor 48 rebuild - documenting!

I was going to reply to this, but forgot! I doubt you'll find FFC at any local computer shops. Unfortunately, it's a hard to find cable in small quantities, since it's built into large production runs of equipment. I tried about 10 different FFC manufacturers and they all said they wouldn't...
  14. Heater display Falcon 38 Junior dead/not working

it sounds like you're pretty tech savvy, have you had a quick look through the photos on my blog post to see if you're putting the cables in right? They should be pretty easy to get in there, and I had one of my cables damaged by ink as well, but luckily they didn't short. Ribbon Cables
  15. Dropping prints

I'm curious, what's the reason for upping the voltage? Is a part going bad and it's dropping out? Bad capacitor? Anyone know? This the kind of thing I'd like to document.
  16. Falcon 1 Outdoor 48 rebuild - documenting!

Actually, I didn't get any O-rings with my kit. :/ I'm just going to use the old ones; they seem soft so hopefully they'll work. I suppose if they don't I can order new ones, unless you think it's worth waiting and ordering another set.
  17. Falcon 1 Outdoor 48 rebuild - documenting!

Just wanted to let you all know that I posted a new update to the blog from this weekend, and tomorrow I'll be editing the pump/capping station post to add in the proper procedures for reassembly (there's not much to it). This new post is mainly going over cleaning out the ink lines from tank...
  18. Falcon 1 Outdoor 48 rebuild - documenting!

Well, here's an update! Just got the CMYKParts.com order in, and took some pictures of the parts, and some comparison pics with my old bits and pieces. Check it out: http://falconoutdoor.blogspot.com/2012/01/cmykparts-order.html
  19. Falcon 1 Outdoor 48 rebuild - documenting!

Thanks for the kind words! I'll definitely keep going with this. The kit of parts should be here anytime now, waiting for the doorbell. I've got a long way to go too, the mechanics might be the hard part for some people, but I hafta learn how to work a RIP, pick color profiles, all that good...
  20. Best price on dx2 heads

CMYKParts.com price just went up to $384 for dx2 heads :/
