So after trying about 20 different combinations of import color profiles, and printing profiles, I found that lowering the ink limits to about 65% had a huge improvement in the color quality, as well as how well it was printing darker areas. It looked like it was laying down way too much ink...

Yeah, it sounds like you did it right. Looking at the picture i took, the pins are going to be on the backside, so the blue tape should go towards the front of the machine. If it did short, who knows what might have been damaged by it.. Seems maybe something on the heater control panel or one...

I was going to reply to this, but forgot! I doubt you'll find FFC at any local computer shops. Unfortunately, it's a hard to find cable in small quantities, since it's built into large production runs of equipment. I tried about 10 different FFC manufacturers and they all said they wouldn't...

it sounds like you're pretty tech savvy, have you had a quick look through the photos on my blog post to see if you're putting the cables in right? They should be pretty easy to get in there, and I had one of my cables damaged by ink as well, but luckily they didn't short. Ribbon Cables

I'm curious, what's the reason for upping the voltage? Is a part going bad and it's dropping out? Bad capacitor? Anyone know? This the kind of thing I'd like to document.

Actually, I didn't get any O-rings with my kit. :/ I'm just going to use the old ones; they seem soft so hopefully they'll work. I suppose if they don't I can order new ones, unless you think it's worth waiting and ordering another set.

Thanks for the kind words! I'll definitely keep going with this. The kit of parts should be here anytime now, waiting for the doorbell. I've got a long way to go too, the mechanics might be the hard part for some people, but I hafta learn how to work a RIP, pick color profiles, all that good...
