1. 1st post, 1st Logo

Every once in a while you will come across a sign that knocks our socks off. And you don't know why but it's stunning. Unfortunately there isn't a formula for this kind of work. But it can happen for everyone who pours themselves into the panel. It's even happened to me and it becomes a...
2. 1st post, 1st Logo

I'd like to take my hat off to Dawn. She's very accepting of all the suggestions and hasn't gone on the defensive. Good on you girl for buying the Stevens book. That shows a willingness to learn. One precaution; This is a hard study. Like DrCas I've also worked a little with Mike and he was...
3. Gerber Users ... Reviews Wanted

Tony, I hope you're right. However I've been hearing for some time Gerber will soon leave the router field. Please prove me wrong. Joe
4. Hdu sign help!!!

There isn't any way to get all the silicone off a textured surface and you can't paint over it. The fastest, cleanest and cheapest way to do a professional job is to remove the existing lettering and cover up the background with new panels. I'd price this out in the same way as if were...
5. Gerber Users ... Reviews Wanted

My next door neighbor has an older Gerber CNC and called them for an update and was told they were not going to support routers any routers in the future.
6. Zünd 3D routing

SN, No problem. The 3d software will output your the proper code for your Zund. From there you only need to import the file and watch it run. The difficulty is learning 3d software. Your best support will come from Vetric, Aspire and ArtCAm. I use ArtCam because of the support. My rep will get...
7. Thinking about buying a router

Richard is on the right track. They make an excellent piece of equipment but there is very little support. You can get one of these for about $15,000 with a spindle. This is a CNC ready to go. No bolt together frame. The resolution isn't as tight as Techno but close.
8. LEd Border

Is it true that flexable border strips aren't as bright as regular led's? Joe
9. Thinking about buying a router

Dave, I'm a router guy who made my way from hand lettering to cut vinyl. I'm still using a brush but converted to a router based sign business. While there are some excellent routers on the market I personally know how difficult the search can be. After owning several CNC's, I believe there's...
10. CNC Estimating

Z is correct when it comes to programs. I don't know of any that don't have the time calculation built into the design end. ArtCam has a program "Express" which has a routing time estimator. It costs about $150.00. A good source is "Beckwithdecor.com" Joe Crumley
11. Un conventional Channel Letter Concept

Mose, I'll give them a look see. What is their advantage? Because I'm making smaller letters it's important to have small LED's. These are placed in slots carved into the plex. Joe Crumley
12. Un conventional Channel Letter Concept

Moze, Thanks for the reply. I agree this kind of sign is overlooked. My client who ordered the "Reserve" sign requested a light wash behind the letters and fill front lighting. The problem was he also wanted a stacked stone wall for the letters to go on. As you know, it's almost impossible to...
13. Dimensional craftsmen in the Southeast:

David, Congratulations on you and the workshops. We need more of these. I'm convinced there is a burning desire for more education in this area. It seems to me every workshop quickly fills up. No matter where they're held. I predict, since there are more and more CNC's making their way into...
14. Un conventional Channel Letter Concept

Thank you for the complement. For those who aren't familiar with LED's they are about 3/8" X1.25" in size. Because they are so small it's possible to insert them in a .50" slot. On these signs I route out a grove along the interior on each letter and there they go. It's seldom that I see...
15. Un conventional Channel Letter Concept

Thanks Gino. That's kind of you. These are easy to make but it requires a router. I'm in the process of quoting a nice sized sign using this technique along with channel letter made with PVC. The best I can tell PVC channel letters are rare or new to the market. Since I have no metal working...
16. Un conventional Channel Letter Concept

Thanks fellows for the interest. I've been bending both 1/8" and 1/4" pvc and it goes very well. A little heatgun assistance makes childsplay out of the basic process but the trimcap process isn't fun. At this time I'm making 8" serifed letters and using 1/8" materials with 4" returns for my...
17. Dimensional craftsmen in the Southeast:

Dave, Wish I lived closer and I'd be happy to attend. Sounds like a hoot. Joe Crumley
18. Attaching HDU to Dibond

It seems there's a fondness for GG. For this application I use good old Epoxy. A quick scuff of the Dibond and you have a close to perfect bond. All that said, I challenge anyone to glue a strip of Dibond to a strip of HDU, set it out in the sun for a day and see what happens. Lets a 2"X4'...
19. LIMAC from China

Arbot, I agree with Bly in appreciation for your postings. I know they take time and many of us are waiting for the analysis. Thank You! Joe Crumley
20. New to routing! Need help

84968I'm with Techman on this subject. By using a sophisticated software like Vetric or ArtCam in the V carve, you can end up with sharp inside corners that are close to perfect. There's another concept to pocketed letters which I often use. That's to give the lettering an...
