I am used Bulk Ink system with charged smartcards also. But I found most cheaper solution. I am purchased service code for permanent disable smartcard system of printer and use now third-patry ink without any cards on my VJ1624 and VJ1638 printers within 2 years.

It happened because CR_FFC cables damages by clamp. This problem can be solved by replace top CR_FFC cable. Mutoh recomends also to replace cable clamps for new style clamps. Or you can install firmware v.2.07 or later and switch off parameter for HeadHeat error and leave old cables.
