  3. Are you superstitious at work?

I rub the invoice between my hands (like a magic lamp) in hopes that a certain customer will pay on time. Not really...but it kinda sounded good, didn't it? But I DO unplug my plotter from the wall outlet EVERY time I'm done with it...and do the same for the computer (at the end of every...

  10. Ipad as a business photo portfolio...

I don't have an I Pad, but could you name the photos in a manner that will allow them to open in a particular sequence? For example, name all the banners with a prefix begining with "B"...like B-101, B-102, B-103, etc... Monument signs could begin with an "M", neon with a "N", and so on...
  11. sign making schools

I think the school of hard knocks will be the most beneficial. The tests come before the lessons, and you'll never graduate...and you can learn at your own pace. JB
  12. Where do i go from here

+1 for AI and SignLab. I use a mixture of programs: AI, SignLab, AutoCAD, and Omax Layout (abrasive water jet cutting CAD program). Each one does a few things in particular that the others don't, and they all "speak" relatively the same language so there's little or no error in file...
  13. Node editing... it wears me out.

I take my stuff into AutoCAD to do my node editing. It has way more object snaps and a mulititude of precision drawing tools. Let's not forget the handy Wacom tablet and pen...what a life saver. JB
  14. client request for price

Four figures, huh? 1) Figure out how to design it 2) Figure out how much to charge 3) Figure out how to install it 4) Figure out how to collect from customer I'd say that it's definitely four figures, for sure! BTW...I have a six figure income, but that's a whole 'nother set of...
  15. Quick Books or Peachtree

Thanks for the responses. Ok...here's the scoop. I purchsed Peachtree three years ago, and have dabbled with it just a few times...looks pretty involved to get it set up. I only purchased it because it had a 100% rebate. So essentially, this was a free deal. I tried downloading the...
  16. Why are there so many fonts?

I love fonts and can't get enough of them...the more the merrier. I retain the right to choose from the thousands for my own projects, and as stated above, I greatly limit my customer's options. When a customer gives me the liberty to use my own judgement, I use that opportunity to try new...
  17. Quick Books or Peachtree

I'm considering one of the two...what would you recommend? I'm just a one-man show who is trying to get up to speed on the basics of accounting. I plan on taking over the books from my wife who now does them the old-fashioned way...pencil & paper. Jim
  18. What do you remember...................

Rex...I'm thinking more of the 70's version...the Wizzer...always getting wound up in my hair. For all of us who were kids in the 70's, check this out: http://www.plaidstallions.com/
  19. sprocketed plotter or feed plotter?

Perhaps vinyl isn't any more expensive, but my Hartco material (from Wensco) tends to be about 20% higher for the punched...doesn't seem right.
  20. sprocketed plotter or feed plotter?

I do monuments, and the sprocket feed plotters work best for the heavy sandblast stencil. For me, it was a no-brainer. For vinyl, the tracking over long lengths isn't so much an issue with sprocket fed plotters as it is with friction fed plotters. If you're thinking of a sprocket fed...
