You're a hack if you don't laminate a long term wrap. We laminate just about everything. Peace of mind, plus we use it as a selling point and the cost is minimal. Anything full color is easier to mount and manage with laminant.
Everything the above post said... If it looks good, I would go with the 545. It is much faster, and I have ran the snot out of mine for 3 years and don't regret spending the extra 5-6k over the versacamm. Roland makes a good product either way but if you plan to grow the speed will come into play.
I just got a roll of 380J and 8580lam to take advantage of the free roller and 25yds of 180j. I have a project that requires wrapping cones and wierd shaped motorcycle parts so it should be fun. I will let you know how it works out..
If all else fails including soaking the head then attach a syringe to the hose from the cap going to the magenta head. When the heads are parked. Pull slowly on the syringe and you should start to pull ink. If you pull air the cap may need to be replaced. Afterwards do a cleaning or 2 and it...
I have a Roland (SC-545 EX) and a Mimaki (JV-33 160) and you can't go wrong with either. I had an earlier Mutoh and I will never have another one in my shop.
When I bought the roland I got the 545 over the versacamm for the speed even though I didn't need it at that point. It paid off when I...
Yeah, I had this same problem when I moved locations and my printer was down. I would suggest changing the caps for the 2 colors too. The syringe worked for me when all else failed.
You need to remove the hose that goes directly to the underside of the cap that is clogged. Plug the syringe into...
I have a mutoh, a Roland and a Mimaki. I have a sour taste in my mouth from Mutoh. It was an earlier model (before the Ultru inks came out). I had endless trouble with it, even with the ultra inks and finally bought a Roland 2 1/2 years ago. Besides from the Mutoh being a boat anchor (unable to...
The sad thing is 2 guys lifted it off the truck onto the dock with no problem. When the "real one" showed up 3 of us could barely get it on the dock.
All said and done though I am impressed with the printer so far and hope to post some comparison info here shortly between the Mimaki and the...
I ordered a new Jv33-160 and was told it would take a week to be delivered. They finally showed up at my dock and 2 guys unloaded it. The tech was going to arrive the following day to install it. He called that afternoon and said he would come over and just take it out of the box and put it...
Another thing I have done when my printer sat for a while during a move. I soaked the suspected heads in cleaning solution by clipping the hoses from the pump to the caps and pouring solution in the cap until it fills up. Let the heads park for 30+ mins and then do a couple of cleanings.
I...
I started in a town of about 5k and after 3 years moved to a metro area of about 1.25million. The small town had 1 established sign business and I was considered the outsider. I offered a much wider variety of products but could not crack the local crowd. My customer base consisted of fellow...
I have been in the market for another printer and have been eyeing the xj740. I just found out that roland has an instant rebate for August of $3500 for the 740 and $3000 for 640.
I contemplated this a year and a half ago (then between the vc and 545) I chose the 545 because of the huge speed advantage. You may not need it immediatly but if you plan to grow (we all do) it will pay off. I am about ready to get an XC. The 545 has been an amazing workhorse.
I also have an...
There is a good chance it is the encoder sensor. I have the skew problem about once a month and cleaning the encoder+env match usually clears it. Once I had a tech come out and clean the encoder sensor.
Also make sure the encoder strip has not come out of the track. (it happened to me once...
I have a big squeegee, a quickmount and a seal. In simple terms you get what you pay for.
I do a lot of mounting on large substrates and the seal is the only way to go. Most of my generic laminating is done on the daige. I have run it quite hard and it has held up fairly well. (better than it...
I have a daige and a Seal and the Seal was worth the price of admission for me. Granted I use it primarily for mounting large prints.
The daige is ok if you don't do a lot of laminating but it is poorly made. I use a piece of 3mil sintra as a sled for the daige and it works great. Crank the...
