Type1 and others you might encounter issuses. read the article in that link.
Really isn't a quick fix. You will need to calibrate your computer to output the file properly by making a custom profile. This happens a lot of times when you use a "canned" profile that came with the machine or from a manufacturer's website.
Are you printing a vector file with a gradient...
you can apply a layer mask to the layer you want to do this do. On the layer mask, use a gradient fade using pure black (#000000) and pure white (#ffffff) (or transparent) while on the mask layer, this will allow you to edit the feathered effect and un-apply it later on if you need to change...

Corel was always beating out Illustrator by signmakers, vinyl shops etc. Then from the Ad Agency/Design Firm aspect Corel isn't even a thought. I too am shocked to see Illustrator being used/preferred more.
You could do that in Illustrator too, I posted a link a while back about how to do just that after I saw so many people (not just this forum) thinking the same thing.
I believe it is Serpentine (if its not bold italic then it was skewed) the bad news is, I do not think you will find it free. Elsner+Flake's fonts are never free (they might be bundled in a package, but they aren't given away) and the same goes for Linotype & URW++ fonts.
Yes it will, just do them in multiples of 100 or so (depending on your computer) trying to do batches of 1000+ is not a good idea. Or invest in something like Extensis Portfolio (very good software)
