Update to 8.1v1 and then in the Color Settings, make sure Gradient settings within Rendering Intent are set to Perceptual or Relative Colorimetric. There is also a setting in the RIP to smooth gradients.

Depends on your ISP. Ideally, your router should assign your computer's IP and DNS (DHCP). The only setting that may need to me manually assigned is the Default Gateway, which should be the router's IP address.
Is this only in a portion of the gradient or all of it?
Flexi has an option in the RIP/Print for Smooth Gradients... Might try that.
Also check the EDIT>COLOR SETTINGS... Gradients should be set to Relative Colorimetric
