CMYK has never given me a decent red or black. I design strictly in rgb unless I am sending out business card files to be printed at a paper house. RGB seems to be poison for those guys.

You may want to check how old the film is. You can do that by lot number on tube. If it is fresh, you may be washing out too harsh. It really doesn't tale beryuch to screw up an exposure. It has been a while since I used blue poly. I switched to emulsion many years ago and haven't looked back...
