+1, I used to do the fiberglass housing over foam back in college, good stuff, spray first coat, maybe reinforce with fiberglass fibers, spray and sand and spray a couple more times (or brush ... doesn't matter as long as final sanding is with wet dry sand paper) you can leave the foam inside...
