  1. Need Help Diamond Grade Reflective cutting

i struggled to cut it on my plotter.... aside from being super dense/thick media, the liner sucks.... the second you score it with a blade, its cut. we UV print on diamond-grade now, but for the project I HAD to make it work for contourcut lettering, I laminated the material onto scrap plastic...
  2. Need Help Golden acrylic

golden, like metallic? chrome? or glitter? or a certain shade of "golden yellow" color? for "custom acrylic colors" in a pinch, I'm a big fan of just goin' with clear, and backspraying or applying available paint/vinyl colors.
  3. Anyone know which manufacturer uses this logo? $20 bucks to the first person

thank god! closure! ....at least on the logo :) i was googling "cardboard tube manufacturers", thinking along the same lines, but with no success.
  4. Anyone else disturbed..

is it too soon, to point out that Soleimani got a better deal than the Dallas Cowboys?
  5. What would you do? (A weird subdivision monument)

what's that thing in the middle? uplighting? agreed, they went overkill with the masonry, I'd have at least made it a bit wider.... panel between the columns seems legit. right option, 1/2" PVC letters & add a border, call it a day.
  6. Need Help How to scale graphics for vans so they print out the correct size

welcome to signs101. rasterlink has a scaling-up feature but YOU have to be the one to tell it how big it needs to be. if you don't know how big it needs to be, grab a tape measure and go measure the vehicle/canvas you wish to apply-to. if you don't have access to the vehicle, then you can buy...
  7. Metal letters onto brick

missing some specs here, or at least photos. what are the letters made of? my first thought is to simply add new studs, as stated above. the pattern is already drilled-into the wall so re-mounting should be a breeze. if holes are filled with old broken studs, then rip them out.... no, you...
  8. Sharp Inner Corner Cuts Not Completing - FC7000MK2-130

blade is turning while changing direction, but hasn't turned completely as it starts traveling up the line and skips/drags in the process and doesn't complete the cut. I "dealt" with it for years, weeding vinyl towards the inner corners and completing the cut by-hand with an xacto.... that...
  9. colored sign vinyl converted to rolls of tape/stripe.. need a source!

You're in milwaukee? Talk to Specialty Tapes. They slice down our 48" rolls of acrylic bonding tape into various sizes, even down to 1/4". I'm sure they can handle rolls of vinyl laminated with premask, no problem.
  10. Osama Bin Lauden

why decals anyways? seems silly. whatever the content, i don't really care. everyone has their own "thing", but laser-engraving or direct-UVprint would be the way to go.
  11. We don’t laminate our signs. Thoughts?

doesn't take much for a client to stop calling you.... and a product that looks worn-out/faded/scratched/smeared within months of install, is a sure fire bet to achieve that. Unlaminated product might not be a big deal, currently, because issues won't arise until after the "check has cleared"...
  12. Drilling Into Acrylic

not a fan, but its possible to use regular steel drill bits. used/dull bits are actually better than brand-new ones. since the cracking comes as result of the sharp tip catching the acrylic and wanting to shove itself right-into it... attempting to split it rather than cutting/shearing. So...
  13. My Seal is a Snail

yeah, to actually go into snail-mode you have to stop laminating & hit the snail mode button. +1 to the speed-knob being the culprit. you may even be able to remove/disassemble it and the fix might just be a cleaning of the contacts.
  14. Lighted Sign Panel

if you're dual-layering transluscent prints like most shops do, two layers of black is opaque. if it were me, the grey's in my "base-layer" would be a bit lighter (if not borderline white) so that the toplayer's grey transluces....I might even add a bit of design to either the yellow text or...
  15. Seal Base54 service manual needed

the electricals of that machine aren't very complicated. just a few switches, a pair of photoeyes, a heating element, and a motor ....i would just open up the right-side panel and trace the line from the power to the heating element to the switch. Something is most likely jumped along the way...
  16. Setting up Illustrator

CADTools plugin by HotDoor is a MUST have for illustrator.
  17. I think I am in the wrong business

did you see the guy who ate the 3rd banana that was up for sale? called it "performance art" to the crowd on onlookers, and says "see you after jail" to them before being escorted away by event staff. should he be on the hook for $120k, or does he get a pass because of.... "art"?
  18. Blistering From Paint Mask Removal

you lost me at the glossy background texture. lol ....but +1 to making separate pieces for separate colors, whenever possible....without piling-on material costs, of course :) masking-off dimensional pieces is a PITA, and opens the door to misc. failures. individual parts assembled always...
  19. Question How do you feel about this....................... ??
