  1. Most of you are just mediocre sign business people

Here is a pretty typical interaction. A couple weeks ago we get an email marked "urgent" on that Monday morning from some national provider in the deep south needing two substantial window decal installations in a nearby, newly built strip mall. Easy looking install, we reply and tell her we'll...
  2. Need Help Roland Motherboard Repair

I think Premier Colour offers that service.
  3. Need Help Hand multiple layer pvc sign to bracket

No matter what, do your best to find a hardware solution that includes bolting THROUGH the panel somehow. Sinking eye hooks, threaded rod unless threaded and epoxied nearly halfway into the panel, etc... will eventually work loose or fail. When the sign falls on someone, you will have major...
  4. Text size in Adobe illustrator

So if I need to match a cap height EXACTLY, I take about 5 seconds and use my rectangle box tool to draw a box with no fill and a thin stroke exactly the height and/or width I need and adjust my text to it incrementally. Holding the shift key while adjusting sizing speeds the process up greatly...
  5. Text size in Adobe illustrator

Can't you just go in "preferences" and under "units" set your type to inches instead of points?
  6. Gerber ION Solara owners who retrofitted their lamps and ink or scrapped it?

Three questions for current or former Gerber ION Solara owners. After a few small ink manufacturers tried and failed to duplicate the ink formula, its obvious its time to put this boat anchor out to sea. 1. Have any of you done the lamp and ink conversion retrofit offered by LavaInk? 2. What...
  7. Painting question new here

Have you ever seen the rolls of anti-cat spiked matting available through pet suppliers? The spikes are spaced about an inch apart and are just pointy enough to hold your panels level. It's relatively cheap and at about an inch tall would keep your panels up off the table top. Worth a try.
  8. "rule of thumb" for post install

We just went 9 rounds this summer with our city's top planner who seems to be on every single builder, contractor, etc. hate list. Our beef was over a 4'x8' post and panel sign whose height to the top of the sign was 7' above grade. He made us dig 24" wide by 36" deep footings and use 6"x6"...
  9. "rule of thumb" for post install

This site is helpful for doing some initial calculations on installations. Every jurisdiction has its own set of rules, but at least you can plug in most of the factors and see roughly what size posts, hole size and depth. Wind speed, building density, etc.. can be found online...
  10. Print & Cut Longer than 8' issues

We've done up to about 12'-15' long runs on our VP-540 on print/cuts and always add extra clamp wheels for those longer runs. I'd say our stray distance is under 1/16" for a 12' run. That is why we add 1/8" to 1/4" of extra color around our letters and elements. As long as the cuts aren't...
  11. Equipaint

No, he appears to have full access to the entire White House AND Signs101.
  12. Equipaint

Well, they are certainly stopping Putin from throwing his weight around..............
  13. Equipaint

Right, so maybe it's none of any of our business and its between him and Paul.
  14. Equipaint

I am his "pal" away from this hen house of busy bodies like yourself. Your problem is that you say that like it's some kind of bad thing while you also misspell a word. Like making friends with people from here for some of us isn't logical or acceptable. Don't you have more constructive things...
  15. Equipaint

There are several members who have posted far more personally insulting, more mean spirited, more disrespectful, more member enflaming, more irrelevant to the topics things on a far more frequent basis who have never lost their posting rights for more than some token wrist slap period of time...
  16. Looking for a new printer....need your opinions

Thanks to some good conversations with the regional sales folks from Mimaki who took the time while out of the country to call us directly and the LA area distributor they recommend who elevated our confidence in its tech support and after sales after speaking, we're ignoring the advice to ONLY...
  17. 48" x 96" digital print mounted to a customer furnished MDO signboard?

We buy the primed too and give the front a single coat of Chromatic or Ronan bulletin white after the edges get extra two coats of primer with a little roller and then the enamel goes on. We NEVER mount prints to anything that hasn't had a decent coat of some kind of oil based enamel.
  18. 48" x 96" digital print mounted to a customer furnished MDO signboard?

You can get a full coverage print on ij35C with gloss lam from Signs365 for $2.50 per square foot which is: $90 with shipping. Unless there is substantial design time involved, charging $300.00 to layout the sign, order a print, accept its delivery and mount it to someone else's substrate seems...
  19. 48" x 96" digital print mounted to a customer furnished MDO signboard?

The "dirty material" comment raises a good point. We usually tell folks wanting us to mount to their material that not only all bets are off on a warranty for the print, but that we also reserve the right to refuse to risk damage to our equipment trying to machine mount a print until we see the...
  20. Roland VG to VG2 Firmware removes service mode, end user access deleted??

While agreeing with you on the basic premise of having the autonomy to fix our own fully owned machines and equipment AFTER a warranty or payment period ends, I can see a manufacturer's point of view about not allowing full access to self-repair while under warranty or still making payments on a...
