  1. I read all these ways 'to' and 'not to' do things in signland......................................................

Some things don't need to get reinvented, when experience, or research helps you find an answer (S101). New and original solutions can be developed, but often times, wiser heads have got there, and made it standard, or even regulation. Got reported today by a safety elf, because I didn't have...
  2. I read all these ways 'to' and 'not to' do things in signland......................................................

“what about this wheel thingy? It sounds a terribly interesting project.” “Ah,” said the marketing girl, “well, we’re having a little difficulty there.” “Difficulty?” exclaimed Ford. “Difficulty? What do you mean, difficulty? It’s the single simplest machine in the entire Universe!” The...
  3. How many one man shops are there? How many things do you do?

I'm currently a one man shop in a larger (still small) organisation. I send quotes, using a home brewed FileMaker solution. For the last year, I've been trying to find time to update the system, so that I can take the quote>active>complete>invoice>payment>accounting software to an automated one...
  4. Question Everything I've learned about perf cut/die cut stickers

If your supplier of smart knives is Harry, I hope you were sitting down, and had a fresh pot of coffee to hand. It would be quick enough to apply the app tape on the laminator, but could be a pig to remove the individual stickers from it. Could use low tack app tape, and then run the premask...
  5. Decal needs to be 50' long

    Long day?
  6. Need Help Greys Printing Blue

I spend 3% of my working life helping folks printing in colour darkrooms. Jumping from RGB to CMY thought processes - reminds me of a day, decades ago while doing C&G747 in the darkroom printing both colour negs *and* transparencies. Easy to slip into the wrong correction.
  7. Tipping Question

That was my secondary (mid ?) school musical, and Sandy was a peach.
  8. Tipping Question

Now, if he'd stolen my mojito...
  9. Decal needs to be 50' long

My bad - I haven't actually had to do this, but as said sounds (un)fun.
  10. Tipping Question

(Late) Client was old enough to be my grandmother (and I'm the wrong side of 50), but a lovely lady who enjoyed the finer things in life (of which I'm certainly not one).
  11. Decal needs to be 50' long

    Sounds fun to install.
  12. How do you pack extra large decals?

Them cores, boxes, and plastic sleeves and roll holders are worth hoarding (a moderate percentage of).
  13. Decal needs to be 50' long

Tile it as above, but if they want it in one string, calculate the cost based on 36"x50', and quote accordingly
  14. Raises?

Ah, I believe you've just hit the key word against which your founding fathers fought against.
  15. Tipping Question

A handsome four course meal with several fine wines, which explains why I can not remember the details of what I ate. But it was probably the most expensive meal I've ever had the pleasure eat.
  16. Tipping Question

Strangely, I'm seldom short of Glenmorangie, even though I'd never bought a bottle. Best tip on an exhibition production job was a couple of half cases of veuve cliquot. One client would always ask me if I could join her for lunch, when she'd come in to sign prints for a show, or a customer...
  17. Rant Customer Rant

Lovely to meet you today, and no problem with deadline. Send the files over via wetransfer by midnight, and we can run your prints, and meet deadline. I'll be in early so I'll drop you in before the normal print queue. 300dpi, Adobe RGB, 300ppi max quality jpeg. Turn up at 06:30, link to google...
  18. Levelling up

Just been on a site visit for the production area in our new facility, and have met a subtle curve ball. Turns out I'm not looking at sealed polished concrete, but rather concrete with undulations up to 15mm, though this potentially isn't the worst issue. The floor drops 150mm over 6metres...
