Is kaizen the word you're thinking of?
And you're absolutely right - thanks for this perspective! This whole place is built on preservation. We're not going to preserve our future if we don't think forward and begin to modernize our processes.
Thanks all - yeah, I think I'm just exiting the honeymoon period here and beginning to see the shine wear off. The past few weeks have been eye opening. It's definitely a large, top heavy organization, but you guys are right.
Gotta just go with the flow or move on.
Yeah, we have several of these types here. Like the guy in engineering who thinks he's the only one who can contact the city planning office or apply for permits. Or the carpenter who tries to have a monopoly on calling in locate requests for underground utilities. Or the IT guy who hijacks a...
For the most part, yes. So long as we have a PO# and room on our purchasing card. We're each responsible for ordering what we need for a given job (we charge internally for time and materials).
Of course! Our rules are that we each need to charge for and purchase what is needed, on-demand, for...
Not sure what the correct term is for this practice -
What do you call it when someone in an organization operates in such a way as to artificially make themselves a gatekeeper of a given procedure/operation/practice? They're usually micromanagers, never delegate, and often inflate their given...
In our area paints are not required to be flame retardant - we use additives from Rose Brand:

Not exactly an answer to your question, but I have over 10 years of theme park sign experience and in the east coast US at least these types of things are hand painted by scenic artists. I would open up your research to include options outside of printed/laminated signage. Maybe a tensioned...
This is right at the edge of the shopping district so yes, Chase could use their branding for signage but was limited on square footage - and you guessed correct - no lit signage. We also still have the barricades leftover from lockdown when restaurants had all the outdoor dining. They actually...
So interesting - it makes me wonder which came first? If a big name company wanted to open shop in a historic district, I'm guessing they'd do their due diligence and research the ordinances beforehand. But what if a given town/area became a historic district - could they then retroactively...
Did exactly this and it sounds like they’re amending the new color choices. Thank goodness. I think this was just more focused on digital that they forgot about the real world, practical (signage) applications?
All the rules and regs here are mainly for preservation reasons. Most of the...
Not exactly - the city dictates what colors are allowed in the various districts. Marketing just neglected to consult the city codes before choosing the new colors.
A business could choose any colors they want for their brand - they just may not be allowed to use it for signage.
And Gettin'By is...
At least this came at the very end of the week...
Our organization (marketing department) just released the new brand style guide and none of the new colors for our "brand" are even approved for use by our city! Geez, it's like no one thought to see if we have any requirements from, ya' know...
Others may chime in with better tricks, but I've always just allowed myself a little extra bleed whenever I need to line up panels. So when you print your left panel just allow a little extra bleed from the right panel and vice versa.
Just gives you a little more wiggle room.
Just design your banner so that the changeable date field falls in a white (unprinted) area. Then just use 651 or Instachange as the others mentioned. If the vinyl doesn't come off cleanly - just wipe it off. Petepaz's method is quick and easy too - just create your banner so that you can...
You could use hanger screws. Just use your CNC to put pilot holes where you want them and then screw them in. Those plus adhesive/tape would hold your panels securely.
Unclebun - I bet you're right. Letters have been replaced, and now it's just a hodgepodge. I went down a font rabbit hole yesterday as well and I think Futura "feels" the closest.
Thanks everyone for the input!
Can anyone help ID this font? It's in the lobby of an old hotel from 1750. Found a few close, but no matches.
Customer is wanting to add more dimensional letters like these elsewhere in the lobby on a beige wall.
Gold on beige? I feel like that's going to be tough to see. Are there any contrast...
