After applying something the other day, I have decided im not going to make it any harder on myself anymore and include some bleed on my diecuts and trim away! Did it once and it really wasnt that bad!
Also had another thought just today, but wouldnt it be a heck of a lot easier than spraying...
We do have a light table, that is a thought though. So you put the art face down with the backing off and drop the PVC shape on top of it? Do you use any water or just go dry?
Mainly its the half inch PVC. With that and the 3mil, its not really straight edges, lots of curves so using a blade for doing that might not work out too well. May try giving more bleed and cutting down helps us out, thanks!
Actually, its not me that does the smoking :-) Sometimes we do end up trimming it down after its placed but they dont always come out looking very smooth. Maybe just not using a sharp enough blade? Also some of the images to have a thin outline around it (cartoon characters) so they require a...
We have been doing a handful of diecut letters and we print solid color and diecut on Orajet to apply onto the letters. We do this by peeling off the labels then using a water/alcohol spray and basically just lay it on there and do our best to get things to lay down to the shape perfectly...
Just wanted to say, we got out Big Squeegee in yesterday and I just tried it out today with applying orajet art on 2 corrugated yard signs, came out perfect and fast!! Thanx everyone!
It did bring up a couple more questions though. If doing this with laminate, can it be done with the same...
You must be pretty good :-) The biggest problem we have is getting the laminate to be flat on the roller. Our previous sign person recently left so we are having to learn a lot of this on our own for now. Even he hated setting up the laminating machine. There was obviously an easier way to...
I looked up his profile and see where he has the squeegees for sale. Also looked around online, they seem to be pretty up there in price. Know anywhere else that may sell them a little cheaper?
Yeah, one thing we have learned is that its a PAIN to set up the laminator machine! You really need to plan out 30 min or so to get it working right. Im thinking the squeegee method might even be better and faster for laminating as well instead of using the machine. We are going to have to...
Thanks, pictures would be more helpful :-) I think everyone in this business are more visual anyway, which is why we are in this business :-)
It seems to make more sense to me now. The only thing Im not seeing is sticking it down. It sounds like I tape the graphic down onto the sled which...
We are not fully able to picture what you are describing but if its really that much easier than with a squeegee, we are ready to give it a try :-). I hate to ask you to explain it better but im not sure I fully understand. It also sounds like i would stick the foamcore to the sled (which...
Seems "big squeegee" is the answer :-) How big are we talking though? One that is about as wide as the material we are putting down? We have 2 sizes on hand now, I think they are about 6" and 12". When putting it down, i find using a "scooping" motion toward me one line at a time works best...
We print a lot onto a vinyl material called Orajet, then stick it onto foamcore, gatorboard or plastic corrugated board. The corrugated is usually not a problem because we spray it down with a water and alcohol mixture. This makes it easier to put the image on straight because we can pull it...
