  1. Chatterbox Designs Company ID interior sign

What we have here is a college educated "Graphic Designer" that thinks he's a sign man. Probably about late 20's that still thinks everybody that's canned his butt is ignorant. I've fired a lot of people like you with the hope that the experience will teach you something. Obviously not in your...
  2. Coreldraw X4 and Vinyl Cutting

Sounds like the points aren't closed, it treats each line segment separately. Select the nodes with the shape tool and then close path under arrange, that will make it one continuous path. Dave
  3. Font Help PPPPlease and thankyou!

Looks like Original Garamond that's been copied about 5,000 times with no clean up. No self respecting font would have an "a" like that:frustrated: Dave
  4. Keeping tabs on employees

My favorite Monkey pic. Sorry for the "sign" language. Dave

Charles, Please disregard the Gerber comment, just went back and read the original thread... Duh. OK I'm old and new at this forum thing, kinda fun once I get into it but I've got a lot to learn. Dave
  6. Mimaki JV5 Banner Material Warping Problem

If the materials warping it has to be either heat or reaction to the solvent, since it's not the heat I'd say you have a material problem. The material should not warp that much, certainly not enough for a head strike. What is the banner material, maybe some of the folks on here have had similar...
  7. Help ASAP

Those keys can go bad too, had it happen on Omega once. Pain in the @$$ to get Gerber to listen, finally got a new key though. Try everything else first though, had a program hyjack the driver for a Omega key once, didn't know the operator had installed it on the machine, drove me nuts trying to...
  8. Omega doesn't seem to handle exporting .eps files easily.

I started out on a 4-B back in the 80's so I've been on Gerber for a while, but I'm getting farther and farther away all the time. Gerber just doesn't like to play nice with other programs. We have Omega 2.1 and if I want to take anything out of Gerber into Corel I have to export as an .ai not...
  9. Handicap specialty sign

Mosh, You should know this, had it happen to a bull once, had to sell the sucker for hambuger, wasn't good for anything else. Dang good Angus bull too, dumby just didn't get it lined up right. Nuff said Dave
  10. cutting directly from corel

Yeah, what he said. OK, it's late and I've had my nightcap. FineCut should have come with your plotter, should show up at the top tools area. Works great, used it for years with no proplem. We also have Gerber (Which will drive your Mimaki plotter) but the guys would rather just plot out of...
  11. Is there color without light?

Does a bear do it in the woods? Does Dolly Parton sleep on her back? Is the pope catholic? Do one legged ducks swim in circles? Do frogs have water tight orifices? Do chicken have lips? Can we keep this thread going forever? Nuff said, Dave
  12. Material ideas?

The 3mm composite is a good idea, take a lot less $$ than making a frame.... But whats the budget? Up sell to 1/2'' routed PVC letters stud mounted to the wall, or better yet if that doesn't scare them go for a nice 2'' non illuminated channel letter. Who says a sign has to be square panels on a...
  13. Too late getting home for any real dinner, so....

To think that somebody actually took the time to make that..... and somebody took the time to look it up and attached it to this forum..... Nuts, the world is nuts.... I like nuts, thanks for the :) before bed. Nuff said Dave
  14. Printer Decision for Entry Level Into Digital Printing

Gotta jump in here... Mimaki JV3160 purchased in '02, first print was reverse print on clear applied 2nd surface Pepsi artwork with "Ice" photo behind it, clear pan face backsprayed, still up and shows very little if any fading after 8 years (can provide photos and invoices). 8 years with no...
  15. Atlantic Computer (fraud)

New guy on the site, sorry if this offends a few, take it or leave it... Just got to throw my 1/2 cent in here (don't have a lot of scents, can't spare 2). We buy all out equipment off one guy and have for 30 years, no one touches our stuff but him or his techs. Sure we play with him and...
  16. cleaning solutions

We just use xylene, recommended by Mimaki repair "person". Any good paint store or automotive paint department will have it. We buy 5 gal. cans but I'm sure it comes in gal. not sure if you can get it in smaller quantities or not. Dave
  17. Mimaki JV3-Half of magenta not printing

If there's something in the damper that's clogged it you definitely don't want to pull that through into your head. Please check cartridge first, if it's got ink in it it's probably the damper. They have filters in them to protect your head from "coagulated" ink. If it's plugged you'll have to...
  18. 1-shot Cleaning Brushes

I knew this was going to be a fun time. Although I just join signs101 I've read the forums for years and come to know that old paint is a really crusty old fart (I can appreciate that) and he's usually right. If you take his advice you could possibly retire with the those same brushes (might be...
  19. exterior lettering HDU vs. Gator: Pros & Cons

Not sure if I know what I'm doing here yet but here goes (I just joined). First real Gatorfoam doesn't have plastic on both sides, it has a paper finish similar to MDO. "Ultraboard" a product similar to Gatorfoam that has a thin plastic on both sides, stay away from it for outdoor applications...
