In Flexi (and it's OEM versions) there is a parameter in the Preferences dialog box called Weld based on Color. If it's checked, only objects with the same fill color will weld. If it's unchecked, any color will weld.

The media profile that you are using in the RIP will define which mode is used. Deviating from the print mode dictated in the media profile will essentially invalidate the media profile.

I believe that the problem you are seeing is related to the settings in the RIP software. Depending on what media you are printing onto, you will need a profile built for that media. As black is the most dense color, what you are seeing is the effect of too much black ink (no ink limits)...

Not quite sure what you are asking...several print modes/ resolutions are supported in the RIP's driver. As I don't have that plotter, that's about all I can say.
