  1. Cutting Business Cards on Roland?

We'd like to print and cut our own business cards on our Roland Sp-540v. But we've heard that this is very taxing on the machine as you are cutting through card stock and also all the way through the material, risking messing up your blade strip. We don't mind going through blades, but we don't...
  2. Laminating Process

Thanks so much for the advice! I will see what happens if I laminate the print right away. Fingers crossed!
  3. Laminating Process

We have been testing out different laminates in different thickness. But our main issue seems to be the drying time the prints needs before we can laminate them. Often we need to print something and then have it sent out that same day or early the next morning. Is there a way to speed up the...
  4. Change Blade height?

We are trying to cut a thick laminated print, but when our Sp-540v runs over it to make the cuts, the blade is so low (or that material so high) that it leaves little grooves as it skims to the next cut location. I know there is a head height adjustment but it seems this is only for the printer...
  5. Versacam sp540v question?

I also have wondered this. I have been hearing a squeaking from the feed rollers. I know you can use WD40 on the blade holder, not sure if that's for all parts in the machine though...
  6. Post Cut Misaligned - Sp540V

Center On Media Oh, yes I did use the center on media... I'll see if not using this helps. Thanks for the advice!
  7. Post Cut Misaligned - Sp540V

Hi Guys, We have a Roland SP-540V that we are trying to use to print, laminate, and cut a 6mil vinyl with a 10mil laminate (have to use three blade passes). Printing goes smoothly but when we reinsert the laminated material, the printer's cuts are slightly off. It has no problem reading the...
  8. Vinyl doesn't seem sticky enough

Weather, Surface, Dirt Yea, it depends on the surface and how dirty or clean it is. We were using vinyl on a porous surface that wasn't allowing good contact. Also, weather will have an effect too. As others have said, the sun and elements will help 'bake' it on.
  9. 45 Degree vs 60 Degree Blade

Thinner Blade Rip off? Ok, I think I'll keep using the 60 degree. On a side note, I bought some blades from a local dealer yesterday but when I went to use them, the blade is half the thickness of the original blades from Roland or Clean Cut Blades. They said it won't matter as the angle is the...
  10. 45 Degree vs 60 Degree Blade

I'm hoping the community here can weigh in on this for me as I keep getting different answers from different places. Originally, we were using a 45 degree blade on our Roland Sp-540V. But as our small lettering kept tearing, someone recommended switching to a 60 degree blade for fine detail...
  11. Brand New Blade "Tearing" Vinyl?

Update: Faulty Blade or Something Else The cut strip looks great, no scratches or tears. I also check the blade holder and the blade spin freely, so don't think the issue is there. So I checked the blade and yes, it does look like the tip is chipped off. Is this because of a faulty blade or...
  12. Brand New Blade "Tearing" Vinyl?

Testing Thanks so much for the advice! I will double check these things tomorrow and let you know what I find!
  13. Brand New Blade "Tearing" Vinyl?

We recently started cutting 2mil cast vinyl for one color designs, instead of wasting ink printing. Last week, we had to change the 60 degree blade as it had become severely dull (we thought the blade would last longer than 2 months, but we have been cutting 6mil vinyl a lot so perhaps that...
  14. 6 mil Silver Metallic Vinyl

Hi guys, We've been using a 2 mil metallic cast vinyl for most of our smaller jobs (3x10"). But lately we've been needing to make much larger decals and the 2 mil is just too thin to apply. We're hoping to find something in a 4 or 6 mil. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
  15. Roland SP-540V "not connecting" to Versaworks

6/20/14 Update: Note sure what/how I did, but the IP address entered into the printer settings in Versaworks seemed to work and it's at least recognizing our SP-540V. It did not do that much previously. Versaworks is still telling me the setup is incomplete. I really appreciate the help and...
  16. Roland SP-540V "not connecting" to Versaworks

Any reason why it's now being suggested to use a router? Why wouldn't the crossover cable work if its plugged into both the printer and my PC? I understand cables CAN be faulty and go bad, but it was a new cable purchase (investment) and when initially connected, began to communicate and start...
  17. Roland SP-540V "not connecting" to Versaworks

Thanks all for the leads. I downloaded Intercon-NetTool as suggested and watched the youtube video that has the detailed walk through. I went into the IP wizard in InterCon-Nettool and entered my IP values. Its connected with a crossover cable, so no gateway IP is needed, right? It's still...
  18. Roland SP-540V "not connecting" to Versaworks

Complete newbie to the large print world. My company recently purchased a used SP-540V and put me in charge of setting it up and figuring out how to use it. Once we connected the proper crossover cable to both the printer and the computer, they seemed to begin to communicate. I installed the...
