  1. Graphtec FC 9000 marks for long cuts

We use the Area Type 2 marks. If it fails for us, it's on the first or second mark and usually means we don't have a roller in the right spot or it's not in 'straight' enough.
  2. Graphtec FC 9000 marks for long cuts

We set our side marks at 8in intervals, we print/cut from corel and the options to do so are there. With our 9000 we have to change the grip pressure of the media clamps for longer/heavier material to keep it straight though. Some slippery materials over 70 or so inches can get out of square...
  3. Best UV Printers for Braille Signs

We just upgraded to the UV84-DTS Gen 2 from the 7200z. It's only been a couple of weeks so we still are not sure of the reliability, but it has been a huge upgrade in every way so far. Initial impressions: It is a huge speed boost over the 7200z. Like crazy faster. Needs cleaned more often...
  4. Hotel room sign manufacturers

We just got a new braille/tactile printer at Howard and it is surprisingly sweet so far. Only a week old ssssssoooooooo.....may change, but I have hope so far. Thanks for the shout out gnubler!
  5. Using Magnetic Material Tips

We do them either on an epson s80600 or v7000 flatbed and cut on a graphtec flatbed. Cutting is tougher than printing them, but cheap blades off amazon cuts the pain of that down a LOT. The 80600 gets larger orders, while the flatbed will do oversize or small quantity.
  6. Document Color Systems UV-53DTS and UV-84DTS Gen 2 thoughts.....y’all have any about them?

Sigh....... Does anyone have any experience with either of those models? Anything at all, negative or positive? I know the UV-84DTS Gen 1's are not well liked and if they are anything like the 7200z's (of which we have 2) then I can totally feel your pain. Currently we run 2 DCS 7200z...
  7. ADA Question.................................

All of the stairwell/floor sings we print at Howard have braille, including the photo-luminescent ones. I'm not sure if that is required, I just keep the printers running and as accurate as I can....lol. I have seen lots of ADA signs made that don't follow the 1/8th inch letter spacing that...
  8. Washed out colors with illuminated lightboxes

On our Epson 80600 we use one of the inbuilt translucent or clear vinyl profiles and it can hit a PMS color when lit up. I think the clear uses 48 passes, translucent 36. Problem is, it's too dark when not lit. We end up picking a PMS a couple up or down from the target and that splits that...
  9. Which would u suggest? Mimaki JFX200-2513EX or Epson V7000

We have gotten the thickness of a 7000 print up to well over 1/32nd of an inch. Acceptable for ADA Tactile, but it can't round the dots off for braille.
  10. Tactile and braille sign

Nah, he just expects it to work. I was the one getting ready to test different coatings.......I wanted the prints to last longer than just one or two drives before getting blasted off. Best part is, we don't sell anything even kind of like that, printer just happens to be able to and he...
  11. Tactile and braille sign

LOLs We couldn't even clear coat the balls, the owner was afraid it would change the 'flight characteristics'...
  12. Tactile and braille sign

It did, and was harder to print on. The braille kept getting 'dirty' with ink specks and stuff in it. Luckily we could pop most of the bad ones off and move on. Had to turn the UV lamps way down to minimize the problem. Then ran a light only pass to harden the partial cure from the first...
  13. Tactile and braille sign

Had to make a topper and a bigger jig to minimize the glare. Was NOT expecting it to be so bright at all.
  14. Tactile and braille sign

At Howard we have two vision engravers and two DCS 7200z flatbeds. Both run from CADlink software. Most non metallic raised/ADA is all done on the DCS machines. The DCS are very finicky and require a fair amount of cleaning/maintenance to keep them working well. Great for mid sized runs...
  15. Epson's UV flatbed is a fact: SC-V7000

It is odd for a USB connected printer to care at all about an IP address change. Our 80600, which is connected via LAN, worked just how you would expect, change IP and move on. Not the 7000 though...
  16. Epson's UV flatbed is a fact: SC-V7000

We use ours all day M-F, but our efficiency could be a lot better. Our most recent problem with the machine (7000) is that a network change caused the printer and controller pc not to talk any more! Which is weird, since it is connected via USB, but whatever. Nothing on that machine...
  17. Epson's UV flatbed is a fact: SC-V7000

We are using Edge Print, and that is definitely part of the problem. Am currently looking at a more centralized solution for our various machines so that should make things better. The 1st's damage may have been in shipping, but it didn't get noticed till it would not set up correctly and none...
  18. Epson's UV flatbed is a fact: SC-V7000

We are less than pleased with ours. To get good quality text means slowing it way down, colors vary by quality setting (i.e. pms 185 looks different in production quality than in fine), and there is only one color substitution table so color correcting for the different quality settings is...
  19. Suggestions Best printer cutter for reflective vinyl

We were having some problems feeding longer jobs through our 9000, but turning up the grit roller pressure (all to high) and pre-feeding we minimized the issue. We are using 4 rollers and some jobs will go over 100 inches with only a 1/32 to 1/16 depending on the backer of the substrate.
  20. Ionizer bars, guns.

We have been working on the humidity levels, and now that it's spring again we are back up in the 50's on average. During the winter it was worse when we were lucky to get to 20%. Far more problems then. White acrylic and certain types of non-glare lens material seem to be the worst...
