Does anyone know if you could simply use outdoor acrylic paints and then give a coat of spar urethane for uv protection...then a light coat of clear coat enamel? Lol thanks...I was LITERALLY about to post the exact same thing actually. My request was reviewed by admin before being approvesd. I READ the rules and regulations. And if what I selected was exactly that selection. If it was against the rules and regulations...it would have been denied.

Thank you so much. I've often thought maybe some type of enamel or oil based paint was used back then rather than the latex and acrylic paints used nowadays where they don't really ever cure onto the surface. They just kind of sit on top if that makes sense. I wish I could explain it a little...

These signs from the 70's-90's were very solid, very hard. And the paint and sealant they used almost seemed to be a part of the wood. Like it was printed on there instead of a layer of paint you could scratch off with your finger nail or dent.

Along with literally every other post u will put here. I guarantee it. I have been looking since about November of last year. Every keyword you can think. Same crap "use outdoor plywood"..."use spar urethane to seal it. I did, and...I did. Still not the same result.

LOL that's the same guy I mentioned above. When I said he is vague about his materials. He says use exterior grade plywood. I did. It is not the same material that was used on the vintage signs, and did not hold up to well after priming painting and sealing..it survived for like maybe a season...

I have tried Google...there is nothing on plywood yard art. Just some a_hole on YouTube doing everything wrong. And that's how I got here...this showed up. So you're saying unless I want to SELL these signs..which I cannot right now but who knows maybe I will once I figure out how to make...

I actually did Google it. And I found almost NOTHING about specifically plywood yard art. Maybe 1 forum of a guy who did these but veey vague on what materials are best. The art of making it with your hands and not a computer, is a dying art. The people that I've seen make these cnc mass...

I'm not making these to sell, I have 2 kids and a full time job. Not enough time or energy for that lol. Just a hobby. I like to do things myself instead of buy from others. It gives me pride in my work.

But you do, in fact sound nasty actually...because I never said I wanted to sell these signs. These are only for me (I do not have the urge to sell one thing I make as it is not for money making...I do not have time for that unfortunately) I would not make a business or sell signs if I didn't...

It would be this, right? Do you know if it dries rock hard and not like soft or rubbery? Also would it be okay over latex or acrylic paints?
