700W 18pass 1200x1200 What is the point?

700W 18pass 1200x1200 What is the point when 8pass Uni 6color 110ink density prints so much better and a lot less grainy. The 18pass mode had all the exact same media preset setting as the 8pass except for the amount of passes.

I have seen this before but since I was creating some profiles and testing this morning I would do a comparison. Left side is 18pass.

The 8 pass uni is in fact a 16 pass. The real difference is the unidirectional printing.

Higher pass doesn’t automatically mean better quality.On some media, too many passes can actually increase grain because each pass lays down very little ink and becomes more sensitive to dot placement and absorption.8pass uni often looks cleaner if the preset isn’t optimized for higher passes..
