Was wondering if anyone could give some thoughts on adding a takeup reel on our vp-540,
Maybe some link to ones that work well and thoughts on one that don't work too well,

Any input would be appreciated,

thanks mark

I have been using the Supply 55 take up reel on my VS-540 for a couple of years

It is a simple machine that does the job well. Nothing fancy.

The bolts will eventually work themselves loose, but they are a snap to put back in.

IMO they have been worth the money.

There is the cheaper off shore version for $300. Looks to be pretty much the same thing. I
bought a used Supply55, but Phototec has the off shore one and likes it a lot.

This is it here:

The Supply55 guys say they can replace parts and theirs is better etc. Phototec says he will be able to fix anything on his, and the motors are available on
eBay about $5.

You cannot cut with these winders, only print. You can only roll 1/2 a roll at a time. They have a slip clutch, and if you tighten it too much, it causes the
motor to work too hard, and then it burns out, which is apparent when it keeps slipping and not winding as you are printing.
