Hi gang, Ive been wanting to get into sign making for a bit and came across a modestly priced Allen Datagraph 824. Too good to pass up. The problem is I have no software at all with the machine and the blade holder is missing. Question is what do I need to get this thing running on the cheap and where can I find what I need? Thanks for any and all help/direction. Cheers!

I'd suggest contacting Allen Datagraph and maybe start with downloading drivers, etc from their website..... they and their cutters have been around for a long time. Solid machines and well supported.

http://www.cssignsupply.com/ they should be able to get you parts

http://www.apdevices.com/index.html ANA Graph Website for driver and manuals.

search anagraph on sign101. lots of stuff on here.

I have a anagraph as well, and its a solid plotter, cut lots of film and only replaced the control panel and pinch wheel and tension springs on it, about 20 years old now.

you can download cut-master adobe plugin and you can use adobe illustrator to design and plot from. Personally I'm a Flexi Guy though.

dont 'get into signmaking on the cheap'

I'd rather spend as little as possible to start thanks. No sense spending big bucks if I dont find it will pay off but thanks for the helpful advice. I'm looking to do small projects not huge commercial stuff. Would you spend $7000 to make back $2000? Again thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Thanks, I've been to their site and the support for this model is somewhat non existent. Granted it is old. I was thinking more along the lines of free or modestly priced software etc. I'll look them up again though. Just wondering if I need proprietary software or not? Tyvm for the reply.

I'll check out the links, thanks! I think I have a different animal but if the stuff is compatible?

Yep. Anagraph is a totally different brand. I have an 860GT here that we keep as a backup for our Summa but I've only ever needed it once.

You need to fully fill out the form on the ADSI site and they will give you a current password to download relevant firmware, drivers, manuals, etc for your plotter. http://allendatagraph.com/tech-support/online-documents/

I cannot recall if they give you any direct plug-ins for Illustrator or anything but it can be driven from probably most basic sign programs. We run ours with FlexiSign but even if one does not specifically list it, if it is serial then you can probably just use a generic setup in whatever program to control it.

Thanks for the link and the help. Much appreciated. Nice to see actual useful replies as opposed to rhetoric. Cheers.

I have one more quick question ..... what is this cutter capable or producing? In other words what can I create with it besides cutting vinyl?
