Arch Distort in Flexi

Does anyone remeber when Flexi had an option in the Arch Distortion that would change the way the distortion looked?

I can't remember what it was called but it had a button or box to check and it would esentially make the change between the 2 distortions at the top of this pic. Now you can't really accomplish the same distortion as the one on top with the distort tools. You can get close with the arc distortion (bottom in Pic) but it takes forever to get the arc the way you want and the letters get thinner at the bottom.

I think it was back in version 6.6 or maybe earlier and then it just disappeared in one version. Maybe I'm missing something and it's still there but I don't think so.

Maybe this should go under the things I hate about my software thread.

Seems like the one you want would be created using Text on Arc instead of Distort.
That will work and it's what I use if using Text. but if you have something already converted to curves it won't work for that. It was just so simple in the older version, simple button to click. I guess that's progress. :banghead:

The other trouble with Text on Arc is that if you're using a font with serifs the corners of the letters don't line up because Text on an Arc doesn't curve the bottom of the letters like distort does.

No real huge problem, just wish they'd leave some things alone sometimes.

I create a line with the pen tool, then "make arc" from the path edit toolbox. Select the "path text tool" and type on the arched line.

It's better to have two hands than one glove.
Don't use the arch, use the one down there at the bottom that looks like a banner and has curved sides. That's one of the few distortion envelopes for which you can move each point independently using the control [or is it the shift?] key. You can straighten out the sides and by manipulating each of the corners independently, you can produce the effect you want.

Or copy it over to Corel and use their far more civilized envelope tool. Then copy it back to Flexi. That's what I do, situation permitting.
