assigning spot colors for edge without vector?

Hey guys i have been converting everything i put into flexi to vector first so I can assign spot colors. problem is some real intricate stuff kind of gets messed up in the vector conversion is there a better way to do this? When I load photoshop files into flexi i can't see multiple layers.

I can't tell you if using raster images with spot colors will work in Flexi or not. I use Omega and it can certainly be done there providing you have a separated image for each spot color. Then it's a matter of layering them in the order you want them; setting up overprints, chokes, spreads, bleeds, halftones and LPI settings. Of course you still have to separate in Photoshop which may be more work than just printing in 4 color process in the first place. The benefit of process versus spot is that you don't have to deal with creating vectors, separating, overprints, color shifting from overprints, or chokes and spreads because the fills are percentages and one color touching another usually blends without leaving the knockout gaps one has to deal with in spot color printing. You do have to learn halftones, LPI and color profile selection along with some basic color management.

But that's why those who master these things make the big bucks. :ROFLMAO:

Im printing on red vinyl so all I need is flexi to know to print spot black not process black. (I'm using up a process black foil and if flexi thinks it's process it comes out in all dots instead of solid)

the he designer has the photoshop setup with one layer is all white and black and another layer red. When I vector it the blood splatter behind devils feedback gos away.

1. In Photoshop, turn off visibility for the red layer, flatten all layers, set color mode for black and white and save the black and white image as a TIF file.
2. Bring the TIF into Flexi and output it to Production Manager.
3. Set the LPI up to about 90 to reduce halftoning.

It doesn't matter whether you use Process Black or Spot Black. What is needed is to eliminate the Flexi RIP from seeing the image as 4 color process.

All you need is whatever is black in black. You do not need the red layer. This is a one color job, tell him to delete the red layer. You should see and black and white digital artwork.
