BN-20 Print Head Problems

I Have been using my BN-20 for the last 5 years or so and it has worked great. I recently had a windows update that has caused problems and this caused me to leave the printer off for a couple days and when i got the machine running again I noticed the cyan and black inks not printing properly. I orders new dampers and placed them in lastnight. I was not getting any ink flow after installing the new dampers. I got a warning about heat after the printer shut down and did a maintenance ink pump as usual but i have never seen this error. Then this morning the maintenance ink pump ended with beeping error and the computer screen said Service Call 250. I did some research and it says error is something to do with the print head. I will get home and check all the print head cables and re seat them. Is there anything else i can do to get my print head printing again. Is there a code or way to DIY a new print head? Any help would be appreciated. I am located in St Augustine Florida. I make medical tape patches for diabetic devices and i need help.
My website is asillypatch.com

I guess i need help with possible replacement heads. I have been looking but curious if its a DX5 or DX7 head and then there are codes? Do i need to verify what i have on my printer now? And what is a good replacement non oem

There is no non OEM head. If you see heads advertised at less than around $1500 then they are a scam, or used heads that are not working. Only buy a proper new one from a legitimate dealer ( nobody in China or the far east or selling on Amazon or Alibaba etc... )
Swapping the head isn't the easiest job, but can be done yourself if you are reasonably technically minded, but you can also damage the head if you don't do it properly.
When you bought the dampers did you buy OEM Roland ones, or cheap chinese copies? The chinese dampers dont tend to work very well and can cause problems, so I would replace them with original ones first and see if that fixes the problem.

My guess is that your original issue was due to clogged nozzles, which, if only left for 2 days, probably could be solved by doing a head soak. Might still be a possibility. If you do end up replacing the head, I'd recommend getting a tech in to do it, unless you're very comfortable with doing servicing on your printer. Don't get a non OEM head, you need to go with a genuine OEM head, 3rd party of these don't exist. It's not worth trying to save a buck.

I did multiple head soaks where i put roland solvent fluid in the cap station and let the head soak. I did multiple medium cleaning operations thru the utility also. I think maybe i bumped one of the cables while messing around, because it was not giving errors until a few hours after i installed the dampers and did cleaning. I really need to order the right head but my google searches come up with all kinds of print heads and codes

Best way is to get one through your local dealer. AT least you'll know you'll have a genuine one and if you get it installed by their tech, it will have a warranty if something goes wrong during installation.

All DX7 heads are functionally the same and many people do install them on their own to save money. But as Zoogee says, the trade off is not having a warranty. Only way to get one is to have a certified tech install it.
