Built a free browser-based LED sign designer (alternative to LEDWizard) would love feedback from pros

I've been working on a tool called SignageStudio a free, browser-based LED signage designer that I built as an alternative to LEDWizard.

No download, no install just open it in your browser and start designing. It's aimed at sign shops and freelancers who need to mock up or program LED signs quickly without dealing with clunky desktop software.

Why I built it: LEDWizard works, but it always felt dated and inaccessible to newer folks in the industry. I wanted something lighter, faster, and free to use from day one.

What it does right now:
  • Design LED signage layouts directly in the browser
  • Clean drag-and-drop editor
  • No account required to try it

Why I'm posting here: You all are exactly the people who'd catch what's missing. If you've used LEDWizard or similar tools professionally, I'd genuinely appreciate 5 minutes of your time to poke around and tell me what's broken, what's missing, or what would actually make it useful in a real shop workflow.

No pitch :) just looking for honest feedback from people who know this space.

Tried to import a pdf, AI and a jpg.....Failed to fetch errors for all.
You'll need to fix this or no one will be using / trying your app....

Hey Dale, fair catch — my bad on that wording. To clarify: no payment required, ever. An account is needed just to save your work and come back to it later, but there's no subscription or paywall. Should have been clearer in the original post, sorry for the confusion!

Thanks for actually testing it and reporting back this is exactly the kind of feedback I needed.

PDF and AI import we're actively working on both, should be functional very soon. Appreciate your patience on that.

JPG/PNG images these won't be supported for import since the editor works with vector formats. For raster images you'd need to convert to SVG, EPS, or AI first before bringing them in. That's a limitation worth documenting better on our end.

Genuinely appreciate you giving it a shot. Once the PDF/AI fix is live I'll update this thread. would love for you to give it another try then.

In the meantime, feel free to try the box signs or letters those are fully working and ready to go.

it did not ask me how deep the sign is. i think that is a crusial part of calculating how many and how close the modules will be.

Dennis, absolutely valid point sign depth is critical for accurate module spacing and density calculations, and you're right that we missed it. We're working on adding this and will update the tool with this feature soon. Really appreciate you taking the time to flag it.

Hey Danny, PDF should be working now. Give it another try and let me know if you run into anything else. Really appreciate you testing it earlier and flagging it!

It has potential. I uploaded an.ai file w/success. A little glitchy on selecting each element -- took me several tries to select more than one element. I'm no expert on LED modules (and obv. this is super beta), but a pull-down list of common modules would be nice as the final product -- if you wanted to get super technical. But for me, I'm a fan of KISS -- Keep it simple, stupid (whenever possible), so I'd like to be able to take a rectangle representing whichever module we plan to use and have that be the module for layout purposes. It could be as simple as "Enter the dimensions of the module". I don't see a need for showing each element within a module, but maybe I'm missing something. I wasn't able to get any further due to my schedule today.

Kev, really appreciate this The multi-select glitch is noted and we'll get that fixed. Love the KISS approach on modules a simple "enter your module dimensions" input makes it universal across any brand without overcomplicating things. That's going straight to the top of the roadmap. Thanks for taking the time despite your busy schedule, hope you get a chance to revisit it soon!

Really appreciate all the feedback so far, this is exactly what helps make it better. If anyone's willing to share their commonly used LED module specs and spacing rules, I'd love to add them directly into your account's module library. Just email me at contact@signagestudio.app and we'll get them in. Every brand, every size, the more the merrier!
