Bypass Expired Ink MIMAKI UCJV300-160

some rectal discomfort when i came in this morning to find my ink expired and printer not willing to print. i had ordered my replacement last week for a Wednesday delivery from Reece but they were backordered. Needed a solution and did some searching, between signs101 and a FB post i was able to compile a successful solution.

we dont use clear very often and so the original expiration and 1month warning were sort of togue in cheek. but the 2 month expiration bit me in the rectum.

here is the solution:
(i printed it as a label and stuck it to my printer should it ever happen again)

ENTER SERVICE MODE:



• POWER PRINTER OFF

• HOLD DOWN FUNCTION 1 AND FUNCTION 2 THEN PRESS POWER

• CONTINUE TO HOLD F1 AND F2 UNTIL BEEP THEN RELEASE



AFTER POWERED ON:

MENU WILL HAVE ADDITIONAL ITEMS BELOW.



TO ADJUST DATE TO BYPASS INK EXPIRATION:



SCROLL DOWN TO:

• #ADJUST

• TIME SET

• BACK DATE 3 MONTHS

• EXIT MENU



RESTART PRINTER.



USE SAME PROCEDURE TO RESET DATE TO NORMAL

WHEN NEW INK AND CHIP ARE INSTALLED.

Mimaki printers set to the proper date are a rarity and makes you weird. Cool kids run at least 2 years in the past.

i inherited it. and the tech had it all set up for the person before me so. good to know. either way its an easy fix for anyone else who runs into the problem.

Andrewmsmith, you are a hero for posting this. The idea of expiring ink is clearly an evil plot by Mimaki (and others). Smoke_jaguar, noted. I will set my clock back to 2024 and let it run so I can be a cool kid. Or at least go under the radar.

You can go to #parameters => #system parameters => support and change value to 3 or 2 default value is 0. After you will do it sevice menu will be available permament

Nope, use end expiration ink is dangerous for your print head. Ink pigment precipitates in over time

It's a bit of both. Pigments do eventually drop out of solution and coagulate which can clog your head. Mimaki just puts expiration dates that are very cautious and short. I know it's somewhat arbitrary because when I order Mimaki SS21 440 cartridges, the expiration dates are usually around 12 to 18 months out. When I order the 2 liter bags, they're all of a sudden 24 to 30 months out. Same ink, longer expiration date simply because of the larger size and likely hood it might expire in the machine.

find a way to print something every day, and shake your bottles everyday.

it just part of my routine. i keep a roll of cheap vinyl on when I'm not printing anything serious (and run small funny stuff for around the shop. gag safety labels and other sign shop/fabrication humor)
and every day or so when i am doing daily maintenance, i agitate the ink bottles.
