Can someone educate me on designing for 4-6 color print?

Dammit, make it faster!!
I often get pdf's for print and always import them into corel for proofing and to set the correct size. I'm amazed at the number of third party designers who use "PANTONE Process Black C" and "Overprint fill". Don't they know Process Black computes to C0 M0 Y0 K0 100. We never use that formula in our prints. I usually change them all to C45 M45 Y45 K100 for a much richer black. Just wondering if they either don't know any better or it's commonly used in a print process that I'm not familiar with? p.s. just to note we don't print pdf's usually only tifs or eps. One of our RIP stations doesn't support pdf (WHAT!, whatever!)

The overprint fill thing doesn't bother me but why overprint if printing on a white substrate anyway? Maybe that's not what overprint is used for?

most designs have ZERO knowledge of what is needed and more importantly that each product has a different way to set up.

just the other day we got a file for invitations and the lady was very adamant that the colors had to match the screen, we said not happening the file you provided is in RGB, paper can only be done in CMYK, also informed her the size she wanted WAS not the size in the file, printed a proof and showed her.

come to find out the file was purchased off of etsy and the etsy designer laid blame on us, she believed the designer, even though we had the proof to show her.
She went elsewhere, some online place i'm guessing, and wouldn't you know all of the points we said were on the finished product..............

don't even get me started on provided files to be used for plotter vinyl :noway::covereyes:
