Hey there! I have been working with a SinoColor SJ-1260C "eco" solvent for almost exactly a year now. When I started, the machine was sitting unused for several years as when it was purchased new from China, no one knew how to set it up or operate it. I have figured it out ON MY OWN through trial and error + a couple of conversations with Karen overseas in customer service. My model came with the older TX800 Epson printheads and let me tell you, you DO NOT WANT this print head. When they work, the quality is outstanding. The problem is finding a reputable source of quality printheads and the correct dampers to go with them. Having said that, I have heard great things about the i3200 and I so wish we could convert my machine over.
The printer itself is kind of built like a tank. It's VERY simple to work on and there's not a bunch of "safety" features that get in your way or prevent you from efficiently maintaining the machine *coughs* MUTOH *coughs*
Now, let's talk about software.
Is it compatible with ONYX? Technically, yes. I have been able to drive the machine directly from my RIP with ONYX 24, but it's clearly not made to be used this way as the printed results just come out a garbled mess. What I've done is set up the printer to "print to file" and then use the provided software from SinoColor to queue up jobs and deliver them to the machine. This works FLAWLESSLY and is very similar to our 2 CET UV flatbeds that have a standalone "RIP" as well. The updated software for the i3200 again, looks very promising. However, since I have the TX800, I get old drivers and old software that is almost too buggy to actually be useful. Things like printing with a single head or printing multiple copies at a time simply do not work or will crash the PC. UGH. I have a love / hate with this machine.
We are considering purchasing a dye-sub machine from the supplier simply because maintenance and parts are so cheap. But, be warned. You need to dedicate time to get this machine operable. It took approximately 1 month per year that the machine sat to get it working. It was about a 3 month endeavor.
Feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have. I'd be happy to help as I found basically no help myself when I needed it!
