Chipless JV3 160S

Just picked up a used JV3 160S. I've been reading about how it is possible to go "chipless" on these machines. I have figured out that I need to downgrade to firmware 3.1... which I did. The printer still seems to demand a chip on the cartridges, however. Is there a parameter I need to change to go "chipless"?

I am not sure I do have a JV3 160 S but it had the bulk ink system when I got it. I know it has original cartridges in it and we run the 3.1 firmware.
