Complex Contour Cuts

I need to contour cut around two lines of text for some boat motor decals. The first line is a simple Arial "MERCURY" with a drop shadow. The second line is some fancy gothic text that says "Freelance Waterfowl Edition". When I try to put a contour cut around it, it locks the program up. Is there any way to make a quick simple contour cut around all of this without overloading the program/computer?

I've never had this problem? And my production machine is pretty modest, using only about 8GB of memory and an AMD Phenom II X4 805 quad-core processor. Do you experience this when only running Flexi?

I was running Flexi and Google Chrome at the time. The bottom line of text was very ornate and distressed, and that was what was causing the problem. I ended up outlining it, welding that together, and the creating a contour around that. The computer seemed to be a little happier with that route.
