connect windows 7 lap with Roland sp540v

Hello there,
I just bought a sp540 and im trying to connect my laptop (win 7 home ed)directly to it. I have versaworks and interconnet tool. Copied my lap ip address and paste it on versaworks but says printer not connected. Im not an IT guy but tried. If anybody could guide me thru this nightmare ill appreciate.

It is not the laptop's ip address but the printer's ip.

I think. I use a router, but I think the printer will still have it's own separate ip.
